UFOs and a Transistor Radio

I’ve seen them. As a matter of fact, I have several of them. No, not the shiny cylindrical variety that you see on some alien SyFi shows. These are stitching projects… ‘unfinished objects.’ After yesterday’s post, my friend Sharon mused that she had projects somewhere and maybe she should go looking for them. That tugged as a memory way back in my mind. I remembered tucking one beautiful project away when I closed my little needlework shop.

I ruminated a bit and wondered where it might be. Is it tucked away in the basement in a tub of mementos? Or, is it stuck in the back bedroom that is packed with boxes of stuff that’s no longer needed…just waiting to head to a resale shop. I chose the latter, simply because it was easier access. I want to start cleaning out that room to move my studio upstairs. I really don’t like hunkering down in the basement to create. There’s no natural light down there. This room upstairs will work much better.

As I sorted through stuff, I came to a box and down in the bottom, I could see a familiar cloth tote that I used to use to carry a particular sampler I’d been working on. I dug it out of the box and peeking inside, there were several unfinished objects…AND my favorite wooden stitching frame! I was so excited! Now I can finish a couple of knitting projects then make a cross-stitch project my summer goal.

In the process of searching, I came across some treasures. My old transistor radio brought a smile to my face. Oh, the nights I lay in bed with that thing tucked under my pillow, listening to Petula Clark and The Beach Boys, The Beatles and the The Rolling Stones. I wondered if if it still worked. I rummaged around in the junk drawer in the kitchen. Everyone has one of those, right? I found the battery, popped it in, and sure enough…it worked! It brought back such warm memories.

Here’s a video of my radio picking up a local country station. Can you imagine listening to this quality of sound and thinking it was the greatest thing since sliced bread??? WE did! I sent this to my grandchildren and they got a big kick out of it.

I decided if I bring out two or three bags or boxes every day, I can get through that mess eventually without having to work at it to the exclusion of everything else. I’ve had a lovely winter where I kept busy and got a lot done while still enjoying our home and my Big Red Chair.  Now it’s mowing season and things will start cranking up, but I still need to have projects to keep my hands busy and that relax my mind.

Thank you all for your great suggestions and referrals to find needlework supplies. You all are always so helpful and I appreciate you!
