Roller Coaster Weather

Yesterday was one of those days that gave us four seasons in one day. Warm, springlike weather with sunshine followed by dark, heavy skies with snow so dense you couldn’t see across the field. Sun, rain, snow, sun, sleet, rain. Crazy, right? Typical spring weather. We can’t complain because in a few weeks it’ll be so hot you could fry an egg on the hood of your car.

Our granddaughter’s home by yesterday afternoon.

My goal yesterday was to tune up my computer and get it working faster. All the graphics I put on it when I was creating designs for my ETSY shop that it got really bogged down. I purchased this computer on Amazon last summer so I knew it was still under warranty so I started a chat with the Hewlett-Packard service department.

After several questions, he began a remote scan of my computer. And in the process, he asked me if I’d ever added hardware to the computer. I had not. However, according to the serial number, my computer should have a lot less RAM and Hard Disk size. That means, the Amazon store I bought it from had boosted the RAM and put in a bigger hard drive…voiding the warranty. I have no recourse because it’s long past the 30 day return period. It was late in the day when I discovered this, and I found a number for the store that sold the computer on Amazon. I can call them and see if I have any recourse through them.

The Blennerhassett Mansion on Blennerhassett Island in the Ohio River.

Mr. FixIt went to the barber and walked his laps then he swung over to the other side of the Ohio River to view the flooding. Parkersburg has a flood wall and they closed it ahead of the rising water on Wednesday. Belpre and Marietta don’t have flood walls and they get a lot of water damage most springs…sometimes two or three times. As a matter of fact, Mr. FixIt owned a single wide trailer when he was young and first married. He had just moved it to a lot in Belpre when four days later, the river rose and flooded them out.

When I stayed on the river in 2015-16, there were several floods but I was way up high out of danger. But I have a healthy respect for floodwaters. They are powerful and can float whole houses away. That is why they tell you “Turn around, don’t drown!” Even a few inches of rushing water can sweep a car off the road. We just got a notification on our phones last night with the report of a local woman being swept away in her car by floodwaters. A Good Samaritan was trying to reach her to help her out when the car was flopped over by the strength of the water and she was gone. You become water aware when you are raised on the river. My prayers are with her and her family…and that kind man who tried to save her but couldn’t.

I think I’m going to need to go out to the farm soon to use the high speed internet to set some stuff done on my computer. I can get done in three hours what takes a whole day to do here. Maybe I can talk my sweetheart into joining me for a farm fix this weekend! Wouldn’t that be nice???

Be safe out there, y’all!

”The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty.“

Psalms 93:3-4 NIV
