Farm Sweet Farm!

Oh…the soothing sound of rain on the tin roof! The smell of old wood and home. The feeling of love around every corner. This old house is like a great big hug and it makes me smile. I was up pretty early and made pancakes and tea for breakfast. I needed to pull some things together on my laptop and what I thoroughly expected to only take a couple of hours ended up being an all day chore.

I was going to knit. That didn’t happen. I was going to read. Nope. But, I’m working on a project and I made some good progress. I’m not ready to talk about it yet…it’s still in the formative stage. But I’m hoping it will be fun, productive, and maybe bring in a little money. We’ll see!

I did have time for a few phone calls. My dear friend Gail called to say her kids lost a dear family member and asked for prayers. I chatted with my sister/friend in Florida. I had a lovely long phone call with Arlene, my Uncle Sonny’s fiancé. She would have been my aunt, but Uncle Sonny was killed in a plane crash before they could walk down the aisle.

My reading nook at the farm…Grandma’s Window.

I worked on the toilet a little. It keeps running and I finally figured out what needs fixed. It’s an easy job. We’ll get it done somewhere down the line. I heated up leftover spaghetti for supper and it was wonderful. I always think spaghetti and chili tastes so much better on the second or third day. Have you ever had the pasta that comes in a bag? You microwave it for sixty seconds and its hot and ready to eat! I’m going to get some of those for camping! I finished off the Hummingbird Cake that I brought with me, too.

Mr. FixIt called me several times yesterday. It’s the funniest thing. We feel like we need a little break and two hours later we miss the heck out of each other! He had to go to town yesterday to get the oil changed and the tires rotated on the Lincoln because he was so bored without me there. I head home this morning to that handsome man.

A photo popped up in my FB Memories yesterday. It was a picture from our high school yearbook. Our high school had a program every year called the Sports Carnival. There were choreographed dances, demonstrations by the fencing and gymnastics teams, and just all kinds of fun things. One of the highlights was the “Living Statues.” One star from each team…football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and crew were covered in metallic body paint. They turned off the lights in the gym and the “statues” posed, the lights came on. Then they’d turn the lights off again, and another pose was created. Every time the lights came on, there was always a gasp, and wild applause.

There was the crowning of the King and Queen of the Sports Carnival. Those members who didn’t win walked together…in couples down to the stage to serve as the Royal Court. On January 11, 2011…I shared a photo of the court on Facebook for my fellow classmates. Mr. FixIt was one of the Royal Court members! Little did I know when I posted that photo that I would be widowed sixteen months later. Or that in seven short years, I‘d be married to that tall redhead on the far end there. Who knew? Such sadness…and such joy. God works in mysterious ways.
