The “Griswald” Family Christmas

“Making Cinnamon Rolls in the kitchen at The Ponderosa.”

Not having things done ahead of time made for a rather long and hectic day yesterday. I didn’t even start wrapping presents till noon and the family started arriving around 4:00! But hey, I made three dozen pepperoni rolls, two dozen cinnamon rolls, and two huge pots of chili. We had a table full of snacks when they got there…chips and queso, cheese and crackers, nuts, and Rolo pretzel cookies. When they left last night there was a small container of chili and six cinnamon rolls. It was tons of fun and we had a great time.

I used a different recipe for the cinnamon rolls this year. I couldn’t find my favorite cookbook with the blue ribbon recipes in it. This one come from Divas Can Cook. They were pretty darned good. The only thing was, I have these new pans and two fit on one rack in the stove. I didn’t even consider how close they were together and heat could not circulate around them…therefore, the bottoms burned. It didn’t stop people from gobbling them up, though! Filled with so much yummy goodness…I added toasted pecans and raisins to these before I rolled them up.

The only thing we have to do today is church services this evening so I’m looking forward to a relaxing day of knitting and Christmas movies! What’s on your agenda? ?

  1. Spent several hours in the valley yesterday finishing up my grocery shopping. Ugh! Hopefully, I won’t have to drive back down and face the crazy drivers. Finishing wrapping presents today and reflecting on all our blessings. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Fixit.

  2. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Fixit. Santa and I have two home visits tonight. Today will be spent cleaning the house. Tomorrow is church and then come home to work on Christmas Eve dinner. Greg’s family that lives here will be at our house for supper on Christmas Eve. We have only 1 daughter home this year, so we will spend Christmas morning opening our presents and then face-timing the other 2 daughters and grands. Happy New Year!

  3. Our oldest daughter is having a Christmas Eve gathering where we open our gifts to each other. Then off to Christmas Eve service at church. Same daughter is having a big Christmas dinner at her house on Christmas Day. She is going all out because she and her family will be out of the country for the next 3 Christmas ‘. It will be a bittersweet holiday for us.
