Spring Rains

Yesterday was a sad day with the news of the bridge collapse in Baltimore. I shared a video of the collapse on my personal page and remarked that leading up to the ship hitting it, there was quite a bit of traffic crossing over. But in the moments before, I didn’t see nearly as much traffic. Turns out, when the police were alerted to what was imminent, they stopped the traffic from going on the bridge. They saved many lives, I’m sure. It would have been an entirely different scenario if the collapse would have happened during rush hour than at 1:30am when it came down.

Also, one of our readers and frequent contributors to our conversations here lost her son unexpectedly. Please pray for Pam and her family as well as those families who lost loved ones yesterday in Boston.

It rained like crazy here all night and all day. I woke up to the sound of rain on the roof of the camper, then along about 4:30 or so, the thunder woke me again. I drifted off again both times, but when I woke up and looked at the weather app, the radar indicated a torrential downpour was about to hit. I jumped up and came inside to avoid having to walk through the rain. I was up quite a bit before Mr. FixIt so I started crocheting the second shark slipper.

When we were in town on Monday, we found that dishwasher at a really good price. I wanted to just go ahead and get it, but Mr. FixIt said no, we’d pick it up later. Then, during the night, I realized after today, the two sales no longer overlap and we wouldn’t get as good of a deal. It didn’t occur to me till Mr. FixIt brought up the dishwasher again, that I meant to tell him about that. So, at 8:45 last night, we jumped back in the truck and headed for town to buy it. I don’t even want to figure in the extra gas making an extra trip to town cost.

Gosh, I get tired of being so far out of town. On the one hand, I love living out in the country on our five acres. On the other hand, it seems like we are forever making that drive. I’m going back in today to pick up my bonus daughter and we’re meeting her mom to do a little shopping and have lunch. I’m getting spoiled with all these “girl’s days!” My friend Deneene is coming through town on Friday so I’m coming back in to meet her for coffee!

I was making supper last night and looked out the window. All this extra rain and warmer days is making the grass grow really fast now! I told Mr. FixIt we’ll be mowing in just a few more days. And so it begins!

I wrote this sitting in the camper last night and the creek out front is roaring from all the rain. I think we got 1.5” in about fifteen hours and the ground was already soaked. The sky was clear and the stars were bright when I came out here. And the frogs are calling. I turned the fridge in the camper on. I had it open all winter to keep it aired out. When I opened it last night to check to see if it was working, it smelled a little funky. I opened the freezer to touch it and there was a package of ground turkey in there! It’s been in there all winter!!! Thank goodness I found it before it gets any warmer out. Ugh! I’ll pick up some baking soda when I’m in town today.

”Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.“

Joel 2:23-24 NIV
