The kids took off for home yesterday morning. We went out for breakfast then Mr. FixIt and I packed up the camper and moved a few miles down the road to our favorite place. (I’ll tell you where when we leave next weekend.) We got by with the bare necessities at the other campground because we didn’t want to haul everything out for just two nights then have to do it all over again. Now we have our outdoor kitchen out with all the frou-frou stuff set up. 

It was still pretty cool, cloudy, and a little windy yesterday but the weather is supposed to start warming up today. While I fixed supper, Mr. FixIt got our fishing gear ready so we can go out and try our luck. Even if you don’t catch a thing, you’re out there having fun and enjoying the views and each other’s company. We both enjoy camping so much…especially at the beach. We both remarked how the weight of the world leaves your shoulders when you get to the beach.

I brought a couple of salmon filets with us and fixed those with the last of Loraine’s fresh asparagus. I also microwaved those little baby potatoes, so we enjoyed quite the feast for our first night here in the dunes. We have several camping trips this summer,  so we would rather spend our money on food to cook rather than going out to restaurants if we are in a place where the kitchen can be set up. 

As I sat here writing, Mr. FixIt reminded me to make the reservations for our fall beach camping trip. We also want to go over to the Eastern Panhandle and visit my Uncle Bud and cousins a couple weeks after we get back from this trip. We haven’t seen them since last spring. It’s a shame to be in the same state and not get over there to see them, so we’re going to rectify that.

One of the things we love about camping on the Outer Banks is the close proximity to sunsets over the sound and sunrises over the ocean. Mr. FixIt’s favorite thing to do at the beach, other than fishing, is to see God’s handiwork at the start and the end of each day. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate. And sometimes it’s pretty darned chilly, but I brought plenty of warm clothes with us this year so I’m well prepared to accompany him on his daily jaunts.

I’m just so happy to be here with my sweetheart. It wasn’t all that long ago that I was newly widowed and couldn’t believe there would ever be joy in my life again. Whenever Mr. FixIt steps on my last nerve, I remind myself how different my life could be if he hadn’t found me. We both consider this the greatest gift and that is worthy of showing appreciation…frequently!
