One More Sleep

It’s been quite a while since I went on a girl’s trip. Covid changed a lot of things and the way we socialize was at the top of the list. It wasn’t the only thing that got in the way, however. There were illnesses and surgery…deaths in the family and the price of gas. Things have changed in the Covid arena. It’s still out there, but there have been enough people vaccinated and enough people exposed to rein the beast in. It’s not like it was the first year…a near certain death sentence.

So, we are heading out and socializing more. And it feels wonderful to walk around in the world with a little more normalcy. Mr. FixIt and. Still wear masks when we are out in crowds like the grocery store. We try to go there during slow periods to reduce our exposure. And, we are militant about not touching our faces and we wash our hands regularly. We are still among those who have not succumbed to Covid and I intend to keep it that way.

Those I am camping with have either had the illness or they’ve been vaccinated so I feel pretty safe hanging out with them for the next few days. We were originally supposed to gather at my friend’s house and “camp in”, but she lives in East Palestine and none of us felt comfortable going there. We are heading further north. They’ve rented a cabin for 5-6 of them. Another friend and I will be camping side-by-side on the edge of a large lake. It’ll be cold at night, but the days are predicted to be more seasonable.

Today I need to rid up the camper and stock the things I’ll be needing. I also want to light the furnace and let it run a while. When I ran it last fall, it got hazy in the camper from burning off whatever was on the furnace parts. I want to make sure all of that is gone before I light it up and sleep in there. I do have my little electric space heater and an electric blanket, so I’m sure I’ll be toasty warm. I also need to figure out what knitting project(s) I want to take with me.

Mr. FixIt is taking the truck in this morning for new brakes and rotors. I’m really looking forward to being with the girlies. Prayers for travel mercies. I have no idea if there is cell service or wifi at the campsite so if you don’t hear from me for a couple of days, don’t be alarmed. I’ll be heading back home on Sunday.
