Moving On to The Next Thing

I find winter passes much more quickly when I keep my hands busy. I finished the socks yesterday afternoon then immediately started on the sweater. That’s three pairs of socks in one month…a personal record to be sure. And, Gail was absolutely correct…the sweater is much easier and knits up so much faster than the socks do.

We watched football yesterday. I don’t pay a whole lot of attention during the season. But I do love when it gets time for the playoffs. So much more is at stake…at least imminently. Last week, we watched the Cincinnati Bengals pull of an unlikely victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Kansas City Chiefs upset the Buffalo Bills, so that placed the Bengals against the Chiefs yesterday to determine who moves on to the Super Bowl.

We settled in to watch the game at 3:00. Everyone favored the Chiefs to win. It is tough to beat Patrick Mahomes. When you see him featured in multiple sponsors’ commercials all season, you know they have a lot riding on that talent. As was predicted, the Bengals came out and stumbled around in the first half. We felt somewhat resigned to watching them succumb to the pressure. But, man…I don’t know what that coach said to the team at halftime, but those guys came out fired up for the second half.

They tied. They pulled ahead! Then, in the very last seconds, the Chiefs scored a field goal to take the game into overtime. We were screaming and hollering and just could not believe the whole season was coming down to who could score first. The Bengals lost the toss going into overtime and that drastically cut their chances of being the first to post points. Then…they fumbled and the Bengals recovered. They drove hard down the field and when they were firmly and safely in field goal range, they kicked it n and scored for the win!!! Lawsy mercy…it is a good thing it’s winter and the windows are closed or the neighbors down the road might have been concerned for us. We had so much fun celebrating the win of a frank underdog.

It always feels good when an underdog wins, doesn’t it? It’s sort of a David and Goliath story played out in a modern day arena. We want the little guy to be the victor. I couldn’t really get into the second game because I wanted to get back here and write this post. I can always go back out after and knit a little more. I have a phone call with the medical center today. Mr. FixIt’s birthday tomorrow. We’ll head to OSU on Thursday with surgery scheduled Friday. It will be a fast and busy week…one I will be happy to have behind me!

  1. That was an exciting game. A lot hollering for the underdog. I guess they heard it. Then we watched the second game. It was a fun football afternoon. Happy Monday to you and Mr. Fixit ☕☕☕

  2. We watched both nail biting games! So happy for the Bengals! Routing for them in the SuperBowl! Happy birthday to Mr. Fixit and have a good week. Praying your surgery goes well and safe travels! Beautiful socks! ?❤️?
