It Never Fails

Little’s Room is just about ready!

Mr. FixIt and I were talking about this yesterday. Whenever you have a project going…you have to make umpteen trips to the hardware store. This fitting was the wrong size. This lag bolt was too short. “I tried to tell the sales guy that this shutoff valve wouldn’t fit, but I let him talk me into it!” It never fails. It’s not all that big of a deal when you live in town and the hardware store is a mile or two away, like when I fixed up my mom’s house to sell. But, when you live twenty “West Virginia Miles” away…it’s a whole different ballgame.

I purchased these pillow shams years ago…hand stitched on antique German linen bedsheets.

We ended up having to run to town again yesterday because something didn’t fit or it was too long or whatever. I had an errand I wanted to do anyway, so I tagged along for the ride. Remember how I’ve told you in the past that a trip to town is an all day ordeal? Yeah…breakfast on the way in…dinner on the way back. The upside? I didn’t have to cook! We found what we were looking for. Also, I purchased a reproduction cross-stitch sampler off Facebook Marketplace a few weeks ago and finally got around to taking it in for framing. I was hoping it would be ready by the end of the week, but it doesn’t look like it. My fault for taking so long to get it in there.

My Aunt Peeps gave the antique rabbit doorstop to my mom.

When we got home, I helped Mr. FIxIt set the sink in the bathroom and hold it while he attached it to the wall with lag bolts. Then I worked on Little’s room. It’s almost finished. If I’d thought of it ahead of time, I would have given it a fresh coat of paint, but I doubt she’ll notice. I just wanted it to be comfy and peaceful for her. I’ll finish it, clean up our room today for Daughter #1 and Big, then clean out the fridge. Thursday is grocery day. Then they arrive on Friday!

Dining al Fresco at the river

Thank goodness we don’t have any rain forecast for a while. By yesterday morning, we had 3” of rain in the gauge…in around 15 hours’ time! Mr. FixIt got up a couple of times in the night to check the storm drain and it was perfect. We will both be so glad when the kids get here and we can stop working on projects for a while and just enjoy them…and summer!

Almost finished!
