Getting Some Much Needed Rest

Chewed up walnut hull.

Well, something got into the bucket of black walnuts I left in the driveway. When I went out to check the mail yesterday, the evidence was left in a neat little pile along the edge of the concrete. No scat that I could find to identify the critter. I didn’t catch anything on the security camera that would identify the culprit either. So…no bear on the camera as of yet. Maybe Santa will bring me a couple really great trail cams for Christmas!

Poor Mr. FixIt. He was maybe a smidgeon better yesterday. He has that deep chesty voice you get when you have a bad head cold and he’s still sneezing and has a runny nose. No fever today and he continues to take his antiviral medication. I thought for sure I was coming down with it Thursday night because I started getting a scratchy throat, but I slept like a log and woke up no worse for the wear. My Covid Test continues to be negative. So, either I have a very, very mild case or it’s the typical fall allergies that come when the leaves are on the ground getting moldy. I am staying out of Mr. FixIt’s face and washing my hands and everything else in hot soapy water.

We had a phone visit with our Primary Care Provider yesterday morning and she said to continue what we’re doing…rest, drink plenty of fluids,Tylenol for aches and fever, diet as tolerated. Mr. FixIt was actually hungry yesterday and ate nearly a normal diet so that’s a good sign. I wish he could sleep better but when he lays down, the head congestion won’t let him rest. He did get a little napping done in his Big Red Chair and I’m sure that helped. It looks like he’s past the worst of it and I may just have dodged the bullet this go round.

Other than playing nurse to my sweetheart, I didn’t do much either. I started reading my new Appalachian Cookbook and cant wait to try some of the recipes. I started going through the camping gear that is parked on the floor in our family room seeing what needs to be put away and what can just be stored over the winter in the “kitchen trunk.” Mr. FixIt getting Covid kinda put an end to the camping season for me. I could still go out and sleep in the camper if I wanted to, but the Asian Lady Beetles and Stink Bugs are thick as thieves out there and it’s not worth it getting up and down to suck them up in the hand held vacuum.

Our weather has been warm this week, but next week will bring a big turn in the temperatures so this furnace thing has to be figured out. Mr. FixIt has a couple more things he wants to check out, but he can’t while he’s this sick. Maybe by Monday he’ll be more up for it. We’ll see. In the meantime, it really does feel good to just sit and read with a nice cup of tea after the crazy busy summer we’ve had.

Fighting the anxiety of nightfall as a new widow was made somehow a little easier with a fuzzy blanket wrapped tightly around me. This was my go-to verse for the night time ritual of trying to calm my brain.
