Camping in the Mall

“I love the little picket fence the maintenance man at the mall fixed up for me. Now I want one for camping ALL the time!”

I spent much of yesterday at the mall meeting and greeting folks coming in to see the Girl Camper Charity Raffle rpod. When I walked in, I took one look at the camper and smiled ear to ear. I was talking with one of the maintenance guys the day I took the camper in and told him how some of the gals I’ve camped with doll up their camping spot. So, he took upon himself to go dig around in their prop room and find this cute little picket fence and set it up around the business end of the camper to hide the jack, propane tanks, and hitch. OMGosh! Now I want Mr. FixIt to make one of these for me when I camp all the time! Too cute.

I can’t remember if I told you about the cutest little boy who came into the camper over the weekend. He must have been about 7 or 8. He studied the layout and then asked if I had schematics for the camper. I showed him the floor plan. I knew it wasn’t exactly what he was looking for, but he was too polite to say anything. I knew he was trying to figure something out. Finally, he turned to me and told me how cool it must be to live in the mall in a camper because I don’t have to drive to go shopping! What a sweet boy.

I still can’t get over how few people I know who come through the mall. Yesterday I saw a husband and wife that I knew and that was it. I was away for a long time, and Parkersburg is a lot bigger than it used to be when I was growing up.

Here’s something I’ve found interesting. When I arrived at the mall early to deliver the camper the other day, there must have been well over a hundred people walking in the mall for exercise. I was really happy to see that. West Virginia has always ranked really high on the national obesity scale. Yet, in the summertime you see walkers everywhere and in the winter, they go in the mall. I wonder if this is common elsewhere because I’ve not noticed it in other places I’ve lived.

Today is my Gigi day…I am meeting the girls and all three babies for lunch and a little shopping and exercise. I can hardly wait! Then tonight is bible study. I love Thursdays!

  1. In Panama city Florida lots of people walked in our mall. The hurricane closed our mall and they say they are not building it back such a disappointment for many people. I walk at a walking park but always went to the mill when. It was raining or very cold. Miss it. Love your posts Ginny and if you are ever this way you have an open invite. Just got back into my home from the storm. I feel thru your posts that we have a connection.

  2. I was remembering the other day about those outdoor stairs you used to go up and down in the park… wonder if you still have a go at random stairs?
