Another Trip to Town? Why, Yes Indeed!

I know I should never declare a day as “strictly stay at home” because nine times out of ten, it’s not going to work out that way. Such was the case yesterday. We were working on the camper. We bought an electric jack that will raise and lower it to hitch it to the truck. It had a crank hitch on it, and even with grease, it was slow going. And, when it’s really hot outside, the last thing you want to do is stand out in the sun cranking that thing.

Mr. FixIt was putting the jack on when he realized they didn’t give him bolts with it. He could have used the old ones, but they were getting rusty and he felt it was better to buy new. He also needed an inline fuse. In the meantime, I put the new tire cover on the spare tire and realized there was a three inch gap in one of the seams.

Since we needed three things from the RV dealer, and the pharmacy texted that my prescriptions were ready, off we went! It was a much quicker trip this time. We did have to add a stop at Lowe’s for some star washers, but it was only two hours out of the day instead of seven like Tuesday.

Just before we left home, I turned on the fridge in the camper to start getting it cold. When we got home, I went inside to check and it wasn’t cooling at all. I fiddled around with the fuses and the circuit breakers and couldn’t find anything there. I went and got a small lamp from the big camper and blogged it into the outlet the fridge was plugged into. No juice. I traced back into the camper and figured out the breaker was tripped on the GFI outlet. Mr. FixIt stood outside and watched the lamp while I reset the GFI and the light came on. Ok, so we know the outlet itself works. I had him unplug the lamp, plug the fridge back in and turn it on and it tripped the GFI again. So…was it the GFI or the fridge that’s the problem?

I asked Mr. FixIt to plug the fridge into an extension cord we have plugged into the building. At that point, I left it alone for awhile to see if it would start to chill. While I waited, I vacuumed the pool again. I stirred up the algae the other day and we’re having trouble getting the water to clear again. This happens sometimes when it’s really hot outside. It felt good to get in the water and cool off a little bit. Once I was done, I fixed us some fresh sliced peaches with a little cinnamon sugar on top and enjoyed a cool summer treat. We haven’t been eating enough fresh fruit lately and that really hit the spot.

When I came back out to the camper to write, I checked the fridge and it’s cold! Wahoo! That means the fridge itself works, but it is either something wrong with the switch or it’s somehow wired into the GFI and not a separate circuit, or there is something wrong with the GFI. Changing out a faulty GFI is a quick and easy fix and it doesn’t cost a lot. We’ll try plugging the extension cord into another GFI outlet this morning to see if the fridge trips it. But, honestly, it’s just as easy to use an extension cord and plug it in. There are 120v outlets on the power posts at campgrounds. We can always use propane to keep the fridge cold as we travel. Or, we could go really OLD SCHOOL and use a cooler with ice!

The potty tent arrived yesterday, along with the memory foam topper for the mattress. I’m going to have Mr. FixIt stay in the camper with me tonight so we can make sure the bed is comfortable or if we need to make any other adjustments, we can do that before we head to the campground Friday. We haven’t gone camping together for two years now and we can hardly wait!!!!!

  1. There’s always something with a camper. A positive attitude is a requirementbfor most camping trips. LOL
