A Speedy Saturday

You know, for not doin’ much a nuthin’, the day sure got away from me. I basically piddled doing one thing or another without accomplishing a lot. I did move the black walnuts over to the garden. The hulls need to rot off and if I leave them in the buckets, they’ll just mold. Grandma used to take them to the basement and spread them out on old newspapers to dry. But to be honest, I don’t have the square footage available here to do that…in the basement or in the building. I spread them out in a single layer and shut all the gates. I can see the garden from the bedroom so if something gets into them, I should hear/see the nut snatchers. I don’t think a bear would scale the tall fence for walnuts when there are plenty down by the creek. The deer can’t get in with the gates closed. So, if anything gets into them, it’s got to be something small.

I worked on the computer a lot yesterday…designing some Christmas ornaments for the shop. In the middle of the day, I decided to bake Mr. FixIt a Pineapple Upside Down Cake. It’s his favorite and I’m trying to get some calories in him to build up his strength. He’s feeling better every day. He’s still congested, but he hasn’t had a fever for a couple of days now. I’ll run another Covid test on him tomorrow, but I think the worst is past us. I’ll test myself again tomorrow, as well. God was watching out for him, I’m telling you that.

Along in the afternoon, I moved the dresser away from the wall in the bedroom and vacuumed the cool air intake vent. I did the same in the hallway and guest bedroom. I don’t think there is a blockage on the supply side of the furnace. And, there doesn’t seem to be any blockage from the blower into the rooms. Personally, I think our son might be onto something. He thinks maybe bees got down into the exhaust from the furnace burners and it’s tripping a safety switch. Either that, or the motherboard is faulty. We have to figure this out pretty soon. The temps are taking a nosedive in the coming days and it’s going to get pretty nippy in here!

Isn’t it sad about Matthew Perry who played Chandler on Friends? He passed away from an accidental drowning in his hot tub. He has struggled with the disease of addiction for many years and I know from personal experience how terrible that is to live with. I was blessed…my miracle came instantaneously after I overdosed. I never had a desire to drink or abuse prescription drugs after that. Others aren’t so lucky. They fight and lose over and over and over till that particular demon takes them. My prayers go out to those who knew and loved him…both in real life and those who loved the characters he played.

I think I may try to sleep in the camper tonight. It will be quite some time before the temperature will be above 50° at night. Mr. FixIt hasn’t needed me at night since the first couple of days he was sick so I can slip away. I need to get out to the farm and get the furnace and the gas stoves turned on and make sure everything is working right.

I spoke with my sister-in-law in Utah last night. They are Jewish. We talked about the war in Israel and how everyone in the Jewish Community knows someone or is related to someone there. It breaks my heart. I am so worried for my Jewish friends and family and for everyone affected by the violence perpetrated against them. I pray earnestly for them all.

Please pray for peace.

  1. Ginny this is the first post of yours that I’ve seen in quite some time. So sorry to hear your sweet husband had Covid but happy to hear he seems to be getting better. I had it a few weeks ago. The first test was negative but after 3 pretty lousy days I retested and it was positive. So weird that I didn’t get it when it was so rampant . I hope you’re ok.
Why am I not getting your daily post anymore? I hope I’m not blocked.
Now I just tried to put this through and it said I’ve already said this so it won’t let me comment.

  2. No, my friend…you aren’t blocked. It’s FB algorithms. They drive me nuts. I think I’m going to have to come up with some other way of getting my posts to people. Please make sure you’ve added your email address on the website registry under “Become a Rancher” so I can reach you by email. I’m glad you’re over Covid. Mr. FixIt is much better today! 🩵
