West Virginia Date Night

Rural King

I remember a time when “date night” involved a little black dress and makeup. But let me tell you, a trip to Lowe’s or Rural King will do just fine, thank you very much. Last night was date night. We started out with a trip to the mall to run a couple errands and walk some laps. Sitting in the truck too much the last few weeks has taken its toll on my fitness level. We tried to eat at our favorite BBQ place but the wait was over an hour so we went for a quick bite at Qdoba. Then we headed for Rural King. Oh, I love that place! We had to clean out the bird seed barrel yesterday and throw the old seed out. It was filled with thousands of weevils. Something took off with my big bird feeder…raccoons more than likely but it could have been a bear. I got a new feeder and fresh seed. I also bought a handheld infrared thermometer to monitor my hub temps when I get TOW-Wanda back. That was a very expensive lesson.

We went to Walmart and bought a dehumidifier for the basement so I can reduce the humidity in the farmhouse. I’ve washed all the surfaces that had mold and mildew from being closed up while we were gone. I used a bleach solution to kill the spores. I have the attic fan running to draw the excess heat and moisture out. The house had some mold and mildew this time last year when I arrived but this summer has seen more rain and everything was closed up for a month so it was much worse.

We went for a little drive through City Park and headed home. We set up the dehumidifier with a hose down the drain in the basement. The monitor said it was 75% humidity down there. I set it for 50% so we’ll see how it does. I also bought a large tub of DampRid and put it in the bathroom. It’s a bucket of some sort of granules that absorb moisture from the air. The bathroom is typically a damp place, but ours is made more so by the washer and dryer being in there.

The cats are fed. Phone calls have been made. Mr. FixIt is settled in his favorite chair reading the news. And I’m in the big chair in front of the window in the dining room. The evening is cool. The evening sounds of the insects and frogs are my background music. It’s date night in West Virginia…and I couldn’t be happier. God has blessed us with a simple life and abundant love. ❤️

“addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
