WWJD

Last night was “Pub Church”. There is an increasing interest in alternatives to the traditional churches of today. Many have become disenchanted with formal churches and the strong religious rhetoric involved yet they still yearn for a connection of faith. I know from personal experience how the preaching of “hellfire and brimstone” sent me fleeing the church at the tender age of seven. We are a diverse group. For some, this is their only exposure to religion. But for most, myself included, it is an adjunct to regular church attendance and offers a more informal venue for discussion and debate.

Our topic last night was evangelism and how do you do that without turning people off entirely. We came back to the acronym…WWJD. Jesus beckoned others to follow Him. He didn’t condemn them. He didn’t hand people a laundry list of accusations delineating their sins. He loved them. He invited others to join Him and live a Godly life. He taught them. He showered his Grace upon them. We can evangelize without shoving it down the throats of others. We can live exemplary lives. We can emulate Christ’s love in the world and get a lot further, I think.

It was a lovely ending to a lovely weekend. The temperature got up to 66 yesterday and I found myself wandering outside frequently to soak up some sun. Winter is not nearly so difficult to take when you have a weekend like this one every once in awhile to break up the dreariness of snow and cold. And now…here it is…February!!!
