Winter Wonderland

I awoke yesterday morning to a beautiful winter landscape. We had the kind of snow that frosts every little twig and makes the world look magical. It was nice knowing we didn’t have anyplace to go so we could just stay in and enjoy the view. I fixed my favorite breakfast…grits and eggs…and headed down to the studio. I wanted to get some more mittens knitted up so I could sit in the Big Red Chair and do the handwork.

While I was downstairs, I could hear the snowblower as Mr. FixIt cleared the sidewalks. It continued to snow off and on throughout the day and covered the sidewalk again with a light dusting. We were scheduled to have more snow so who knows what we’ll wake up to this morning?

I worked on a baby afghan during the week, and I wasn’t happy with the way it was turning out, so I ripped it out and started over. I decided to make the strips wider so I used the 48-needle machine and liked it much better. Then I cranked out a pair of rose-colored mittens in a wool/acrylic blend that the machine loves. I got one mitten finished before it was time to write my post.

I really don’t mind the snow…especially if I don’t have to go anywhere in it. The house is toasty warm, but sometimes my hands get cold while I’m working so I put on the pretty fingerless gloves that my friend Gail knitted for me. She spun the yarn from alpaca and wool and they really help.I can knit with them on or type. The extra warmth helps with arthritis pain, too.

The evening was topped off with watching Big’s swim meet from clear across the country. Here, she wins her first heat!!! What a treat this is…the icing on the cake of a perfect day!!!
