West Virginia

Almost Heaven. Mountain Mama. Even with the disappointment of not getting to live on the family farm and struggling through some pretty rough winter weather in a camper, West Virginia still holds an allure for me. I have really been looking forward to spending spring here. I’ve only had one spring in WV since I left for good in 1975. I’m looking forward to the dogwood and redbud blooming. The spring flowers are already popping up here and there. Trees are budding, birds are singing, peepers are…well, peeping. I woke up early Tuesday and listened to the day begin. And it really felt like spring even though it was much cooler than Monday’s high of 72.

I worked my friend on Tuesday. We are making great progress on her bathroom. We hung the last piece of paneling and cut all the trim for around the ceiling. We did a little trimming around the closet door and also trimmed out the threshold between the hall and the bathroom. I can hardly wait to see it finished. I know my friend can’t! Manual labor feels good.

Now that Spring is here and we can all get out and play, I know without a doubt I’m going to miss this place when I head back to Colorado in June. But I miss my babies and my kids, my brother and my friends. I need to get there and give them a squeeze or two. But I’ll be back. I’m not sure yet but I’m thinking Florida sounds pretty good for the cold, snowy months of winter. I have two “homes”. Maybe I’ll try for three!

“How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land? If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill. May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.”

Psalm 137:4-6
