Watching Them Grow

We sat around the dinner table that I have come to know and love as the epicenter of the universe. The parents of my perfect son-in-law are as much my family as any of those who share my DNA. Daughter #1 and her family joined us to celebrate Mother’s Day. Watching the playful repartee between my grandchildren warmed my heart. Not too long ago, they were at each other’s throats most of the time. But I think it finally sunk in with Little…Big is leaving for college soon. This is it…the last of the family the way it’s always been. Once college enters the picture, things change.

We told stories…old and new. We laughed and told more…each one more outrageous than the last. With each passing moment, I fell more and more in love with my family. They are hard working, fun loving, seriously good people and I am so honored to be a part of it all. It was a long, fun day and by the end of it, I was ready to call it a night. Ok. It was 7:30. But that’s 9:30 to me. That’s a respectable time to go to sleep, isn’t it?

Daughter #2 called, her dad texted, my friends checked in, my bonus daughter and daughter-in-law called and texted. Sue and I went to the store. She made vegetable beef soup. We ate fresh fruit tart. It was a fun fun day.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
