As many of you know, Mr. Virgo and I were standing in a travel trailer deciding which one to buy when he had his heart attack. We were preparing for his retirement and had plans to travel the country, one little town at a time. When I was left a widow unexpectedly, I decided to fulfil that dream. I went out two weeks after he died and bought TOW-Wanda and took off for three months alone to work my way through my grief in my own way. In 2004, my mother had died and I rented a 17′ U-Haul with a car hauler behind for my Toyota, so I knew I could handle a little ol’ 16 foot travel trailer on my own.
I had seen a news item about Sisters on the Fly and it struck me as great fun. With Mr. Virgo gone, I needed to find something joyful to put in front of me. I ordered their book and read it the week after the funeral. These women are amazing! The organization was founded by two real life sisters as a way to have some fun with their friends in their vintage travel trailers. You don’t have to have a vintage trailer to join. As a matter of fact, you don’t even have to HAVE a trailer. There are now nearly 5,000 members all over the world. And once you are a Sister, you have 4,999 real life sisters of your own that have your back!
You can earn badges for such wonderful skills as mixing the best martini, smoking a cigar, backing up a trailer. There are organized activities at the gatherings of the Sisters and you may find yourself fly fishing for the first time. Or hiking, horseback riding, Dutch oven cooking. Or just sitting around the fire telling stories. I would highly recommend joining this wonderful, supportive, loving group of women whose motto is “We have more fun than anyone!!!” Check them out here…
