The. Perfect. Day. Period.

There are days that you wish you could bottle up and keep forever. Yesterday was one of those days. First, we slept great in the new camper. I will say…we ended up sleeping in separate beds because either I would have climbed over Mr. FixIt at least twice during the night to go to the bathroom, or he would have been crammed into the short angle of the A-Frame. Something we honestly didn’t quite think through before we bought this cute camper. However, I was afraid that my sweetheart might not feel comfortable, and wanting him to have the best experience possible, I threw the twin mattress from the big camper onto the lowered dinette in the A-Frame. When given the sleeping choices, he elected to sleep on the twin…but I fixed it with our heads at opposite ends of the beds so we should see each other and talk. Consequently, we both slept very well.

The night time temperature got down to 53 and that makes for some great sleeping weather. We both had enough blankets to stay warm and ended up sleeping in till about 9:00 when the camp kids started running around. We had a light breakfast, then helped Gail and Mike (the park Naturalist) run the Saturday morning activities. First, there was Skulls and Bones…a game where the kids have to identify which skulls, bones, and pelts belong to which animal. There were lots of questions and the kids loved it. Then, at 11:00, we helped the kids make walking sticks. There must have been at least a dozen kids and their parents in attendance and they all had a blast.

After the activities, we had sandwiches for lunch and sat with Gail all afternoon and talked. Gail spun wool and I knitted and Mr. FixIt visited. Late in the afternoon, Gail’s husband came back and the guys continued working on the electrical in the A-Frame. They finally replaced the GFI outlet, got all the wires connected in the right way, and now everything works great! Yay! But that time, we were hungry. We grilled hotdogs over the open fire again and mine met their demise when they fell off the stick and into the ashes. Not to worry…Gail forfeited her hotdogs and selected something from her own fridge to eat.

Mr. FixIt made a quick trip to town earlier in the afternoon for ice and found an ice cream stand, so…after supper, we went on an ice cream run. Oh, my….Bruster’s Real Ice Cream! The long wait in line was well worth it! Mr. FixIt chose Graham Central Station, I had Blackberry, and we brought Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel back for Gail. SO good!

We met some cool people in the campground. Barb and Erin from Grand Rapids had a panel truck they had converted into a cozy, tiny home. It had a small kitchen, a bathroom, a dinette with an elevator bed that down onto it at night. The truck is big enough to haul their kayaks inside and it was pretty cool. They both have mechanical experience and have done the work with a little help from their dads.

At sunset, we took a walk to check out some of the other campers and saw a sign on a cool little camper… “Enroute with Chuck and Cherie”. Intrigued, we stopped to visit. Cherie had camped growing up, but camping was pretty new to Chuck. They started out in tents, then realized they’d really like to have a trailer. So, the search began. In the midst of Covid, they began to search in earnest because campers were in short supply. They saw this little beauty and though it just might be the best of both worlds. You really only sleep in the camper, so why have more than you need? They live outside at the campground so this sporty model works great. You can follow their adventures here on Facebook and YouTube.

At dark, the Saturday evening movie came on…Cinderella…which I am listening to as I write this. It makes me smile as both of my girls watched it and it brings back memories. I’m listening to katydids and crickets and kids giggling, and the familiar Disney music in the background and sighed. What an absolutely perfect day. But, before I head to bed, I’m going back out to sit around the campfire and see if we can call in the owls!
