The Journey

I’ve been thinking about this journey I’ve been on over the last couple of years. It hasn’t been a straight path by any stretch of the imagination. It’s all wiggly squiggly and brings me forward then back then forward again. And along the way there are a number of doors and little secret passageways that offer distractions from the course at hand. Some are really inviting. Some are definitely marked “Enter At Your Own Risk”. And each has a gift tucked somewhere inside. An experience. An opportunity. A lesson to be learned.

It’s a funny thing about the lessons of life. Sometimes we have to walk a road for a long time till we “get it”. I’ve recently had a situation like that. I dutifully put on my rose-colored glasses and kept hiking. At first the path was really easy but it wasn’t too long before I was scrambling up that mountain till I finally came to the end of the path and the only way out was to turn around. It’s a humbling experience to admit things really weren’t what they appeared. I wasn’t necessarily wrong to take that particular path because I learned a lot about myself and human nature exploring that neck of the woods. Valuable lessons. We never stop learning who we are in the world.

It’s all a journey. We keep going down a path…until we don’t. Then we head down another…and another. And at the end…we are there.

“People assault the flinty rock with their hands and lay bare the roots of the mountains. They tunnel through the rock; their eyes see all its treasures. They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light.”

Job 28:9-11
