The Jabez Appointment

I’ve talked to you a little bit about the Prayer of Jabez and how those two little scriptures have impacted my life in a big way. I read that little book every week and there’s something in it I’ve begun to do recently…with amazing results.

Bruce Wilkinson talks about events he calls “Jabez appointments”. Part of asking for expanded territory is asking God to bring someone to him that he needs to talk with and share some light. Wilkinson recounts in story after story, tales of being in the right place at just the right moment. Since the rest of the prayer has been working so well, I decided to try getting some appointments of my own.

The first time I tried calling in a Jabez appointment was in the spring. I went to the mall and said a prayer before I entered. I told God if there was someone who really needed me to talk with them, place them in my path and I would do my best to help them. I walked around and around that mall and was finally drawn into a store. The first person I met was the owner and within a minute I knew this was my appointment. I was totally amazed, not only by the fact it happened, but also by the fact I seemed to know exactly what to say to help this person, even though I did not know anything about him.

When I went camping this weekend, I made that same request of God…”If there’s someone who needs You and I can help, cross our paths.” It wasn’t long till I walked right into my Jabez appointment. I won’t divulge her identity or compromise her anonymity. Let’s just say, I had personal experience with something that was affecting her deeply and our conversation was validating to her. Besides the obvious benefits of that, it deepened our friendship and I came away feeling deeply touched by the Holy Spirit.

I don’t tell you this to preach. I tell you this to share. I was telling someone this weekend, there is very little in my life that has been off limits to this blog and my faith has certainly played a big role in helping me get through the last three and a half years. If it helps you too, then the blessing is increased. I’m reminded occasionally to thank you all for being here and reading my daily essays. It means more to me than you can ever know and I love every single one of you!
