The Hazards of Country Life

I woke up yesterday morning with the sun peeking over the hill into the window in the camper. It had been a chilly night…an electric blanket and four extra layers kept me toasty warm, even with the windows open. I love being warm in a cold room. I sleep so much better. There is a two-lane blacktop that runs by our house and it gets really busy with folks going to work and all. The traffic started picking up then I heard the dull thud of a car hitting a deer.

The driver stopped and, I assume, checked for damages. The truck must have been Drive able because it wasn’t a minute and he was off again. I told Mr. FixIt we’ll need to call the state road to pick up that deer because in the heat of summer, it’s not going to be any time before the whole area with be blanketed in a malodorous stench. I went up to the road and had a peek and without actually crossing the road and going up to the animal, I could tell it was bigger than the little doe with the fawn I saw this week. I hope there isn’t a baby tucked away somewhere waiting for its mama to return. These are the hazards of living in the country…especially when traffic is concerned. I’ll keep an eye out just in case.

I finished our reservations for the Colorado trip. It’s going to be so much fun! We have family coming in to visit while we’re there so we can celebrate my 70th birthday. It’s hard to get people’s schedules to match up so I hope it works out. As soon as I reserved the last campsite, I headed out to mow here at Marshmallow Ranch. I am so happy to report the bees were all over the pollinator gardens! I love it so much, I’m going to make them bigger next year…and in a configuration that’s easier to mow around.

Our air was much clearer today from the Canadian wildfire smoke. Our big thing now is pollen. I’ve taken antihistamines for years and this year it’s still kicking my behind. Mr. FixIt never has had problems, but this year is bad for him, too. I’ve got him on an antihistamine and I think it’s helping a little. This is one of the more uncomfortable side effects of global warming.

Well, we have finally arrived at “Wedding Weekend!” Tonight is the rehearsal with dinner after. And tomorrow is the big day. The wedding is in the evening so all the photos have to be taken during the day. That will make for a very long day, but the weather forecast is clear with a high of only 83°. It will cool off considerably as the sun sets. I am going to practice mindfulness and stay in the present this weekend so I won’t be “live” till Sunday morning. Once the wedding is over, we can turn our attention to preparations for the Colorado trip.

It’s going to be a great summer, y’all!
