The Eagles Flew the Coop

Mr. Virgo was from South Philly and proud of it. He loved his mama, his cheese steaks, and his Eagles. They were always “his Eagles”…as if proximity to the family brownstone indicated proprietorship. He told me from the very beginning, “Ahhhh, those birds. They just break my heart every year.” And they did. Every year of his life. Then…in 2018, they won the Super Bowl. Nearly five years after he died.

I was ecstatic for the posthumous glory of it all. I knew Mr. Virgo must be up there whoopin’ and hollerin’ and makin’ a fuss. God had to be standing there with a big ol’ grin watching the big guy rave on. It was a heart warming moment. The Eagles had an amazing season this year and faced the Chiefs with strength and skill. They messed up a couple of vital plays and there were a couple of calls that were sketchy. I hoped to the end they could pull it out, but I marveled at the cunning strategy with the clock as the Chiefs squeaked by with the win.

I do believe this was the highlight of the evening.

The halftime show was pretty cool, too. There were no fashion malfunctions and it was fun to hear some of Rihanna’s best songs. And those floating stages? Awesome! We went to one of the kids’ houses to watch the game, visit with friends, and eat yummy food. It was a really fun evening. I totally forgot to post Sunday Evening Prayer Circle…my apologies.

Here’s a pic of the hallway we are painting. I forgot to take a before but you can see from the picture in yesterday’s post how much lighter the paint color is. It’s really bright and clean now. We just have to cut around the edges and Mr. FixIt can put up the new molding and we’re done with that project.

Big put up a valiant showing at the NWC Championships over the weekend. I haven’t heard the overall scores, but she enjoyed it and it was a great experience. AND, she is a freshman. She has lots of room to grow into her own. We’re all very proud of her.

Please pray for the victims of the earthquakes. That kind of devastation is unfathomable. It breaks my heart.

“Jesus said, “Watch out for doomsday deceivers. Many leaders are going to show up with forged identities, claiming, ‘I am Christ, the Messiah.’ They will deceive a lot of people. When reports come in of wars and rumored wars, keep your head and don’t panic. This is routine history; this is no sign of the end. Nation will fight nation and ruler fight ruler, over and over. Famines and earthquakes will occur in various places. This is nothing compared to what is coming.”
