The Continuing Saga of Country Living

Mother Earth is waking up. The grass is getting green. A few more warm days, a few more good rains, and mowing season will be upon us in a hurry. This means I’ve got to “make hay while the sun shines”…so to speak. I fixed breakfast and took my bagel and egg sandwich to the Big Red Chair and set to work.

It was a day of frustration. The internet was spotty at best. And right in the middle of my peak performance, someone on the website I was using decided it would be a really good time to switch things around on the home page so that the procedure I’ve been using daily for three months was suddenly rendered inoperable. It was one of those day when you want to tear your hair out but Mr. FixIt had better ideas. He decided it was time to change the door on the refrigerator in the “Big Birdhouse”…the a-frame we are selling.

When we had the camper at the dealership to fix something, the service guys put a deep scratch on the front of the refrigerator door. I pointed it out to them and since it was still under warranty, they ordered a new one for us. I don’t know how many of you have travel trailers, but you can’t get a part to save your lives since the pandemic started. They ordered the fridge door in November. When I hadn’t heard from them by February, I contacted the service department and they said the door wouldn’t be here till June! They didn’t want us to wait till then (and since we’re selling it, I’m praying it won’t still be here then) they took the door off of a different unit and sent it to us with a label to send our door back to them. Since it’s going to rain today, yesterday became the perfect day to make the exchange.

It really wasn’t a difficult job. We just took the bottom bracket off and Mr. FixIt slid the door right off the hinges. We repeated the process backwards and the door was replaced in just a few minutes. I spent some time inside the camper cleaning and getting it just perfect to sell then I closed it back up. Mr. FixIt was busy painting a “Camper for Sale” sign when I headed back in to work. I cleaned the door we took off the camper and got it ready to ship back to the dealership and I’ll take it in tomorrow to the local UPS drop.

We are past the worst of the cold weather now. We are supposed to be up to 72° by Thursday then continue with temperate weather. We survived another winter and even though I haven’t completed everything I set out to do by this time, I’m not far off. I can see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel!
