The Coffee Divas and the DMV

We had errands to run yesterday. Quite often, Mr. FixIt and I are in the minority when it comes to mask wearing in our little corner of West Virginia. We went in the garage to pick up my truck. No one was wearing a mask. We went into the bank to put our change in the cash machine. No one in the bank was wearing a mask. We went in separate directions from there and I headed to the DMV. I was one of four people wearing masks. FOUR! The place was busy but we were able to maintain some social distance.

People often look at us funny for wearing masks. Sometimes they even say something designed to make us feel stupid for being concerned. “You’re still WEARING those? I haven’t worn one for ages!” My answer is always the same. “Yes. We are still wearing them. It has been great to not even have so much as a sniffle.” What’s more, if they came out tomorrow and said, “The pandemic is over…you can go without masks everywhere” we’d still wear them in crowded areas. Especially during cold and flu season.

The DMV was disappointing…again. The Bill of Sale we got when we bought the new camper didn’t have the VIN number of our trade in. And without that, I cannot get credit for having already paid taxes on it. Now we have to get a new Bill of Sale and make another trip to the DMV. It’s always something, isn’t it? I stopped at Walmart and had my tires rotated. You know…those little jobs that you just have to stay up on. Some days I’m just not into “adulting”.

Today is going to be MUCH more fun, though. It’s the first time since July that the girls from our high school class are gathering for coffee. I’ve really missed them! It’s going to get cold again today with a high of 44. It’s sweater and leggings weather and I really love that! As I drove home from town yesterday, the sun was inching closer to the western horizon and the light has that magical golden quality that I love. The trees have taken on deeper, richer colors now. There are shades of honey and butterscotch, burgundy and bronze, and a rich brown like the supple leather of a fine quality men’s bomber jacket.

After so much rain Thursday night, I would have sworn the leaves would all be gone by morning. Instead…it was breathtaking. We are trying to decide if we are having a Thanksgiving Dinner at our house this year or not. We had one Thursday night. My bonus daughter is having one next Saturday. How many do we need? Besides…I’d love to go see my uncle and cousins for Thanksgiving. I’ll need to make my mind up pretty soon, I suppose.

In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy what’s left of the autumn colors and visit with my cohort of “coffee divas”! What are you all up to this weekend???

  1. I know the feeling of the DMV.I went to renew my drivers license, after 8 yrs. now that I’m almost 80 they will be good for only 6 yrs. But anyway here, you can only get into DMV with an appointment.
So I had the appt. went and finally got in and the lady looked at my license and said do you have your passport or birth cert,I said no just for renewal and she said can’t help you. You need birth cert, or passport, and two pieces of something showing your address. I said I’ve never had to do this, she said Well! the law changes. My license is still good for yr. so that is why i never wait till last min.LOL have a wonderful weekend Ginny,Love your blog.

  2. It’s your choice of course, but people do not have to wear masks if they are fully vaccinated. Sounds like you are shaming the people who aren’t wearing.

    1. Well, there are variants of the original virus, and I am sure there will be more. While the vaccines do make it far less likely to die from covid, they do not provide complete immunity. I’m not shaming anyone. I am sharing what I am doing to protect myself and others. I had coffee today in a coffee shop in a separate reserved room with 11 of my good friends from high school. All but one of us have had our booster shots and she is scheduled to get hers next week. We didn’t wear masks because we were all as protected as we can be. But, in a roomful of people where I am unsure of the vaccination status of the other occupants? I am wearing a mask…which IS what is still recommended. ?
