Stranger Than Fiction

There are some stories that are so “out there” you have to ask yourself how on earth they happened. Here’s one of them.

As you know, Big started college this week. Right? I don’t know how she got to be that old that quick but there ya go. I won’t divulge what school she goes to, but it’s in the Pacific Northwest so…far away. I received a text today from her other grandma saying she ran into the typical freshman logjam and couldn’t get into any of her core classes this semester so she signed up for electives. That’s ok…I think it’s a good idea to ease into college and not be terribly overwhelmed right out of the gate. One of her electives is theater related, which is kinda cool since her mom was a theater major and this is WAY out of her wheelhouse.

The next text I received was from the former Mrs. FixIt. She sent me a screenshot of a FB post of a friend she and Mr. FixIt have known for decades who lives in our little town. The gal was sharing the news that her granddaughter was checking into her dorm…at the same college Big is attending! AND…she’s a theater kid.

I sent the screenshot to Big and said…”Teeny, tiny world. This girl is at your school and is interested in theater. Your paths may cross.” She texted me a few hours later…they are in a class together!!!

You can’t make this stuff up!

I came out to the farm yesterday for a couple of days R&R. I knitted till the sun went over the far hill then got the riding mower out and mowed. The evening was so pleasant. I visited with the neighbors across the road then sat on the front porch till it got dark. Now that the yard is mowed, I can just sit and knit today. I only have a couple inches left on the second sleeve. Then I can knit the front plackets and this sweater will be finished.

Oh, and I was washing my supper dishes when I looked down and water was running out from under the kitchen cabinet. I got down to look and the u-shaped trap under the sink had come loose. I tried to fix it but I only had a small hand towel and couldn’t sop up the water so I’ll check it again today. I may end up having to go to the next little town over and get some plumbing parts. It’s always something with an old house. Caretaking is what I do to earn my stays here and if I ever need to buy something, the owners reimburse me so I’m still calling this a win-win situation.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.”

Colossians 3:23-25 ESV
