St. Augustine

St. Augustine Lighthouse

This is probably my favorite town on this trip. St. Augustine is our nations oldest city. Home of Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, Castillo de San Marcos, Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, and the Colonial Quarter. The Cathedral was magnificent. I lit a candle for Mr. Virgo since he was a Catholic. The Castillo, or Fort Matanzas National Monument (which I entered free with my Senior National Parks Card), was very interesting. I was intrigued by the coquina, a kind of limestone formed from shells and sand, from which the structure is made. I climbed the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse. The views were magnificent from up there. I even got brave enough to look over the edge! I spent the majority of the day wandering through the little shops in the Colonial Quarter. I ate lunch in a Cuban restaurant. The temperature got up to 78 and it rained briefly at around 6:00 as I was walking back to my car. It was an absolutely gorgeous day.

I’m heading to Savannah, GA today. Another historical city. And, I’ll get to visit with one of my nieces.

On the road again… ❤️

  1. Love St. Augustine. My husband and I were there a few years ago we had a room right on the waterfront. We walked through the old town section. It was lovely. We walked down by the water and to,the Old Fort. I,would love to go back sometime. Glad you,had a good time. Enjoy Savannah. We were there too, same trip.

  2. I so enjoy being a “part” of your wonderful trip. It is part of my morning ritual now. Even my husband knows about your journey!
As a wife, mother and grandmother, I have long realized that life isn’t always going to happen as we wish. The long days of worry for a family member can be difficult. But I have made the choice to be a strong woman who will remain constant in my beliefs yet unfailingly loyal to my family.
You “encourage” me daily with your strength and reinforce my belief in myself with your belief in yourself!
I know that so many women feel as I do and have told you so but I wanted to join the ranks! Thank you.
