Springtime on the Farm

Daffodils
“Grandma’s Daffodils”

This is my ultimate favorite time to be on the farm. While there isn’t a chorus of “peepers” here like there is at the Ponderosa (Mr. FixIt’s land), there is a chorus of songbirds, owls, and the creek running outside the bedroom window to lull you to sleep at night. Not to mention the sounds of the rain on the tin roof here in this old farmhouse.

The lay of this land is different than Mr. FixIt’s. His is a flat five acres with the house, pool and outbuilding tucked over towards one corner. He has a couple of creeks, but they aren’t close enough to hear at night. I believe there is more usable land at his place than there is in the whole of seventy-four acres at the farm. The farmhouse sits on a long, narrow strip of land nestled between two steep hillsides comprising what is colloquially referred to as a “holler”. The driveway runs up one side of the house to the barn and outbuildings and the creek runs down the other side. The hillsides are heavily forested with deciduous and evergreen trees. There are walnut, hickory nut, flowering dogwood, sycamore, poplar, oak, maple, cherry, and redbud all up and down through here.

Grandma treasured her flowers and the first of them…the daffodils…have bloomed. Now that Mr. FixIt’s hand is healed from his surgery and he doesn’t have PT three times a week, we can spend more time here.

I’m looking forward to our annual road trip to the beach in three weeks so I’m trying to get things caught up at both houses. Hopefully we will get a side trip in to visit my cousin and his family in Bristol, Tennessee. Not too long after that is the first Girl Camping event that I’m attending. Camping season is soon upon us. My big summer project is to finish reworking my ‘67 Franklin camper and I can finally have that vintage trailer to dress up and play in! Today is supposed to be in the low 70’s with some up and down temps until next week when we get some really warm weather coming in. I am so much happier when I can get out in the sunshine and leave the coat behind. ❤️

“For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
