So Long, Seashore!

Sunrise at the Outer Banks

As they say, all good things must come to an end and we have to leave this beautiful place today. I finally got a sunrise photo yesterday morning. We aren’t necessarily early risers so we kept missing them. We couldn’t have had a prettier October week at the beach if we would have custom ordered it. Although we did have a couple of rainy days, it wasn’t really bad. There were a lot of people camping here in tents and I’m so grateful we have Grace to keep us warm and dry.

I did go out in the afternoon to take the big cell phone antenna down. I saw on The Weather Channel that we could possibly get thunderstorms and that thing could have acted like a lightning rod. It isn’t difficult at all to put it up and take it down and it really made a difference in our reception. Even though I was conscious of my time online this week, I do rely on internet to get my posts out everyday. Writing this blog may seem to some like something that could easily be put aside for vacation time, but I’ve written an essay almost daily since its inception and I just don’t feel right if I haven’t had time to write to you all. It is my mission, my ministry, and my therapy.

The old Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station

As I write this, Mr. FixIt is sitting beside me, watching a Tom Selleck movie with his headphones on. The wind and rain is buffeting the camper around as the storm whips through the campground. The neighbors are sitting in their truck instead of their tent to avoid the weather. I would ask them in, but they have two dogs and we just don’t have the extra room. The breeze coming in through the two windows we do have open feels wonderful.

The old Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station

Now that we are leaving, I can tell you we stayed at Oregon Inlet Campground. On the photo, you can see the blue dot where our campsite is located, and across the long bridge, you can see a short expanse of the old Bonner Bridge that they kept and use as a fishing pier. We went there yesterday and parked in the lot, then walked out through the dunes to the beach. And, just like always, I found several feathers to add to my collection at home. The sky was getting threatening and we cut our walk short. It was a good thing because the rain started coming in sheets about fifty yards from the parking lot. We got back to the camper, dried off, and I heated up the leftovers from our anniversary dinner at Henry’s. Scallops, flounder, hushpuppies, and baked potatoes. I made baked apples for dessert.

A Storm Brewing

We are heading to a campground along a lake today. I’ll send pics and location tomorrow.

Storm Over the Atlantic

🌊

“If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth, and if a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.”

Ecclesiastes 11:3 ESV
