So Long, OBX…See You Next Time!!!

It was our last day and we wanted to do something fun so as soon as the temp warmed up a little, we gathered a few things and took off. Mr. FixIt has had his picture taken with a specific dog statue every time we have been here together, so we surely couldn’t leave before getting this year’s shot. And…since he was all masked up, I’ve decided you get to see him from the front without blurring out his face! Yeah, I know…you still can’t see him ‘cause his picture and his name is the only thing I keep close to my heart. The rest of my life is pretty much an open book. He reads most of my posts and…so far…he’s never had a complaint about any of the stories I tell. As a matter of fact…I think he kinda likes it!

The day started out cool but sunny and clear. We walked the boardwalk and looked at some of the little shops. Finally, I looked at him and said, “You know…every one of these shops has the same darned things in them. Let’s go fishing!” His eyes lit up and we went back to the condo to pack a quick lunch and headed off to the beach. There was barely a breeze and with the sun shining, I was warm enough in leggings and a sweatshirt. I took my knitting and worked on the shawl as we chatted between casts. The fish weren’t biting, but the crabs were devouring the squid off the hooks as fast as he could throw them out in the surf.

Around 5:00 or so, the clouds started to gather and it got chilly. We packed up without eating our sandwiches so we decided to drive up the island to the Currituck Lighthouse again and have an in-truck dining experience. It soon became apparent the sunset was going to be obliterated by cloud cover and we headed back to the condo. We’ll pack this morning and head home so we covet your prayers for travel mercies.

In the meantime, here is my progress on the shawl I’m knitting. I chose these colors because they reminded me of the sand, surf, and sunsets here on the Outer Banks. Now I’ll have a lovely reminder of our 2021 trip to the beach every time I wrap myself in its cozy warmth. I don’t know if I’ll get to knit on the way home as I am usually the designated driver and my sweetie is my navigator. If not, there will be plenty of other opportunities. I’ve decided to spend a little time every night after I write and before I chat with my son-in-law’s mom, Sue. If I keep at it, I’ll definitely get it done! Sometimes I’m not so good at finishing projects but I’m determined to do this one.

We usually divide our trip down into two segments, staying overnight somewhere around Williamsburg. That’s so we don’t get here totally exhausted and ruin our first day trying to rest. I don’t care so much going home because we can always lay around on Sunday and not miss a thing. I was telling Mr. FixIt last night, I’m usually ready to go home about Thursday. Then on Friday, I want to stay another week! At any rate…we’re at that age when I’m really excited to sleep in our own bed. So, getting home in one day just might be the way to go.

See you tomorrow!
