Shorter Days and Colder Nights

Ice cream time by the river.

Man, the days are getting shorter fast, aren’t they? I was out in the camper at 7:00 last night to put some things away for our upcoming trip and it was nearly dark already. This time of year seems to just sneak up on you, doesn’t it? I looked at the weather for next week, thinking we might squeeze in a few more camping days, but it’s going to be colder next week than this one. And this one is going to be cold enough. I wish we could have found this camper a month earlier. We would have had a big time in September!

When I mentioned the possibility of camping again next week, Mr. FixIt laughed and said, “Ya know, we have to get some work done around here pretty soon!” He’s right, of course. I just hate to give in and see the end of camping season. Oh, there will still be plenty of days I can get out here and enjoy this camper, but they’re soon going to be fewer and farther between, that’s for sure.

One of the days we were camping at Leith Run on the Ohio River, I noticed the people beside us had this great step stool. Some campsites aren’t very level and you have to raise one side by pulling one wheel up and a lifter of some sort. If it’s on the door side, then your bottom step can be raised way up off the ground. Not only is that more difficult to get in and out of your camper, it can be really dangerous. We are of the age where we have to be concerned with the possibility of falls. The legs on the step are adjustable for height to account for an undeveloped surface. As soon as I got home from the last trip, I ordered one of those and it came yesterday.

I don’t like to buy a bunch of useless gadgets for the camper, but this one seems like it will be important to have. Not only is space at a premium, but you don’t want your weight to be over the limit. The legs fold up on this stool so it will fit in the storage bin under the bed. It also will give Mr. FixIt enough extra height to use the leaf blower to clean off the top of the slide out before we put it in. Whatever you have in the camper has to serve more than one purpose.

We cleaned out the wheel well on the curb side of the camper yesterday and I filled any cracks or spaces with clear silicone caulk. I’m hoping that will take care of any leaks like we had when we drove in the rain last trip. We’ll have to see. I don’t think we’ll be driving in the rain this time.

We just have a few things to put in the camper in the morning then we can head to our next campground. I have to camp at this place twice a year…once in the spring and again in the fall. It’s kinda my home base in the camping world. We’ll see friends and have a blast! If I remember correctly, the campground has decent cell service so I’ll still be able to post.
