Seldom a Dull Moment at Our House

Our Giant Sycamores in the Hedgerow

I can’t say I never have them. Dull moments come to us all. Yesterday was one of those days that things just seemed to need doing, like…right now. I was in the middle of my work on the project when Mr. FixIt decided it was time to do something about the gas stove in the family room. I have noticed the walls were getting discolored up by the ceiling. Then, I saw something that wasn’t supposed to be there…under the stove itself.

On closer inspection, it was soot. The stove has never produced soot before so I knew something was wrong. I did a little research online and we finally figured out the logs were not positioned correctly. When we had the new carpet put down, we moved that stove. When we put it back, I noticed the logs had become displaced so I put them back as best as I could remember. I had no idea whatsoever that they have to be in a certain position in order to work properly or they create soot. There’s even a photo of the proper placement in the instruction manual. Because I didn’t know this, it didn’t occur to me to say anything to Mr. FixIt or he would have caught my error. Now we have to repaint the family room. But, I was getting tired of the bluish grey anyway. I want to paint the whole house with the same color we used in the hallway…Swiss Coffee. It helps sell a house if the rooms are all one color and we’re still planning on moving to town before too much longer.

Once we got that messy job finished, it was time to fix supper. I bought a big salmon filet at Sam’s week before last and cut it up in meal sized portions and froze them. I took a bag out Wednesday night for last night’s supper.

We have a set of Ninja Cookware and I love that you can put the skillets in the oven. I baked two medium sized potatoes. Then I melted a little butter in the pan. I sliced up several big mushrooms and placed them in the skillet, put the salmon on top of the mushrooms, then nestled the potatoes on either side. I sprinkled Tabitha Brown’s Salt Free Sunshine Seasoning on top and added some fresh ground pepper and a squeeze or two of lemon juice. I covered the pan and put it in a 350° oven for about 15-20 minutes. I removed the pan and placed asparagus spears on either end of the salmon and popped it back in the oven for another 5 minutes or so till the spears were just perfect. Oh. My. Gosh! It was amazing!

So, we got some things done that needed doing and we had a veritable feast afterward. I love when a meal comes together and it’s the crowning touch to a busy and productive day!
