Rose Colored Glasses

“Rose Colored Glasses”

My mom always used to chastise me for looking at the world through rose colored glasses, as if that was a bad thing. I have always looked for the positive in every situation, no matter how dim or dark. When there are trials, looking for the silver lining isn’t always easy, but it can make a world of difference in how well you cope. And when life is good? Well, those rose colored glasses just absolutely rock your ensemble, girlfriend!

I can’t believe I got to the delightfully rich age of 61 without ever going to a “Sing”. Now, y’all from the hills and the country, and the hollers, and the south, and the mountains are gonna know what I’m talking about. You drive down a country road and there’s a hand-painted sandwich board sign out in front of a little country church or a community building reading “Sing Tonight. 6:00”. If you’ve never gone….please, whatever you do…pull over and go in. You might be regaled with a couple of hours of old timey Gospel music where everyone sings along. Or, you might just get the treat of your life and get to listen to three hours of nonstop bluegrass of the purest variety like I did last night. From “Nelly”, the lead singer, nattily dressed in her western skirt and vest, easily in her 80’s to “Junior”, just 15 and picking up where these amazingly talented country folk are going to leave off…a talented young man who can play guitar, bass, and “rip up a banjo”, so his grandpa told me though I didn’t have the pleasure of hearing that. I was thrilled, mesmerized, and honored beyond belief to sit in the community building down the road a piece from my new home, to be introduced around to the neighbors and family of family as the “little gal who drove a 24′ trailer…BY HERSELF…ALL THE WAY FROM COLORADO…SO SHE CAN TAKE CARE OF HER AUNT, BLESS HER HEART”… to buying a slice (or two) of my aunt’s famous Lemon Pie, and to hear the sounds of my youth, transporting me back to those Saturday nights on the farm, listening to Dolly Parton and Porter Waggoner, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and then…the piece de resistance…the Grand Old Opry. Girls… I was in heaven. Last night was so very, very rich….my rose colored glasses are fogging up a bit!

And what’s on the agenda today? An auction, of course!!! Can it get any better than this??? <3
