Road Trip!

Country Roads

When life hands you lemons, call up the girls…the Girl Campers, that is! Last week I saw that my Girl Camper friends were having a girl’s weekend in the mountains of West Virginia and I thought to myself, “You’re gonna NEED that!” So, I signed up. I called up one of my local friends for a road trip and off we went. It’s been an adventure already, let me tell you!

Deneene plugged the address into GPS and we left around 1:30. The forecast was for snow in the mountains but most of the drive was partly sunny. We chatted happily about this and that when Siri told us to turn off the highway. I’ve been here a dozen times and I thought it odd, but I’m always up for some new scenery so I didn’t say anything. Each road became smaller and smaller with every turn. For the most part, we were greeted with a marshmallow world where every twig is frosted with white fluff and, thankfully, the roads were clear…till we started climbing.

We hit the first place where the stiff wind was blowing the snow across the road and I started to get a little concerned. It wasn’t long till we were in white out conditions in four-wheel-drive. Deneene and I took turns praying as we climbed ever higher, creeping along. Finally, we turned off the county road to a two-lane blacktop. As we were coming down the mountain, a semi came down way too fast and really freaked us out. There wasn’t any place to get off the road and we were afraid if he got in front of us and jack-knifed, we’d be in bigger trouble so we hung in there and finally made it to the lodge.

We checked in and spent a fun evening with a dozen or so gals, eating big bowls of homemade soup and breads, chocolate, and wine. Some knitted. One quilted. Deneene applied henna tattoos to whoever wanted one. There was lots of laughter. There is always laughter, isn’t there?

Women have been having gatherings since before recorded time. We bond, we grow, we mentor, we listen. We should strive to lift each other up with love, honor and support whenever we can. I, for one, have had a pretty stressful two weeks and I’m tickled to death to be here with my fellow sisters. No worries…just fun for a few days. As my grandma used to say, “It’s good for what ails ye!” ❤️

“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭20:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  1. Aww … women’s gatherings. I love the power in that. We really bond with each other. The laughter, the listening and mentoring. And of course, the wine and chocolate…❤️
Thank you for sharing, Ginny !
