Road Trip: Day Six…”I Made It!”

OMGosh! I thought it was going to take forever to get here. With the long drive day on Monday, I was sure hoping today would go better. My good friend Diane called me Monday night and said, “I’m waiting to read about the fun part in this. Why on earth are you doing this if it’s so miserable?” And, my answer depends on when you ask. If you would have asked me Monday evening, I’d be hard pressed to come up with a good reason. But, if you asked me Thursday and Friday when I was camping with my gal pals, I’d tell you that’s the best. And if you ask me right this minute while TOW-Wanda is tucked in the shade at Ben and Sue’s house and my grandkids are here, I’d tell you this is the best. And, on the 24th, when Mr. FixIt and I head to the high country to camp for a week, I’ll tell you that’s the best. I will tell you this…the very worst day pulling a camper cross-country through Kansas in July at 103 degrees with no air conditioning STILL beats the very best day at work…hands down!

Yesterday wasn’t as windy so the trailer wasn’t getting buffeted around so it was a much easier drive. It wasn’t quite so hot. It was a relatively short drive day. And, I slept eleven hours Monday night so I was rearing to go! I love a road trip…even when things don’t always go smoothly. It presents me with opportunities to work out problems on my own. And, even though I have this wonderful man in my life now, I’ll still be traveling on my own sometimes. It’s what I do. I’m not giving that part of my new life away. I’m accommodating Mr. FixIt INTO my new life, just as he is accommodating me into his.

As I was driving along yesterday morning, I finally came across a Starbucks that was easily accessible. Yay! But what I found in the truck stop store was a bigger WOW! I love those big truck stop stores. They always have hard-to-find accessories. When I was in the wreck in February, everything made it out of my truck except the piece that attaches my Garmin GPS to the windshield. I had jury rigged something that sort of worked until the afternoon sun melted the adhesive. I found the replacement piece in that truck stop store yesterday and I was ecstatic! Problem solved. And, this mount is even better than the original! Score!

I’m really looking forward to some lay-low days with family this week. I want to thank God first and foremost for travel mercies and thank all of you for your prayers and love and light sent out for my protection. I didn’t even see a single fender bender. God is the best and you all are, too! ❤️

“Here’s what will happen. While you’re out among the nations where GOD has dispersed you and the blessings and curses come in just the way I have set them before you, and you and your children take them seriously and come back to GOD, your God, and obey him with your whole heart and soul according to everything that I command you today, GOD, your God, will restore everything you lost; he’ll have compassion on you; he’ll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. No matter how far away you end up, GOD, your God, will get you out of there and bring you back to the land your ancestors once possessed. It will be yours again. He will give you a good life and make you more numerous than your ancestors.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:1-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬

  1. Good to hear you have reached your destination, despite the bumps in the road. Thanks for your daily updates. Now, enjoy your family and do some real relaxing! Your adventures make me want to retire tomorrow! ??❤️

  2. That’s a wonderful and uplifting scripture. I had some problems with my trailer, and I wish I hadn’t gotten so upset about them (I was mostly concerned I would 1) have a fire while sleeping or 2) make my friend dislike girl camping who was with me. It ended up we didn’t have a fire though the problem was disconnected wires and there could have been (badly connected in the factory) and my friend is a total trooper (which I knew but still…I wanted it to go perfectly). I think letting go of expectations helps a lot when camping, part of the ‘adventure’ is that things can, and often do, go wrong. Working through it can be part of the ‘fun’. We worked around the lack of interior electricity by using the battery lights till it started to drain too much, and an extension cord out the window with a multi-strip allowed us to make ice for our drinks, curl her hair, and could have watched dvds if I had brought my portable player. It’s always coming along from now on. We had fun anyway:) I’m glad you did too.

  3. Yippie!
You are there safe and sound…God was with you al the way.
…and what a perfect Scripture reading you chose!
    Now, family time❤️
    Enjoy.

  4. Wish I could have hopped a ride with you! Enjoy Colorado for me I’m sure it is a great reprieve from our Kansas heat…and it HAS been hot this week!! I’m thankful you made it safely. I heard yesterday that there had been a bad accident around the Bonner Springs area with four killed. I was pretty sure where you may have been in the video so figured you were west of there by then. We too have been blessed on our trips not to see any kind of fender benders. Enjoy all your loved ones and the cooler temps. <3

  5. Glad to know it all went well. Enjoy your time with the grands. Our two live close by (we can see their house) and we take that for granted way too much. Have a great vacation!! ?

  6. Hello, am new to camping, SOTF, starting a new chapter in life. Read /printed your “Bolder” article and loved it, just what I needed today, thank you so much. Hope to meet you someday

    1. New chapters can be scary AND they can be SO rewarding. Reinventing yourself is empowering and requires boldness. Good for you for stepping into the challenge! I hope our trails cross one of these days, dear one! ❤️
