Revisiting

Hands on a sundial

“Time spent in nature is never lost.”

There is no way to avoid bumping into grief. It’s around the corner. On any given day, something…anything…can trigger a grief response. Sometimes it’s a whisper. Sometimes it’s a roar. It’s such a relief when things are going smoothly and the interruption is just a riffle in the stream. That’s what happened yesterday when I opened Facebook and there was one of those “memories” right in my face. There was a time that would have knocked me flat. Instead, I felt the sting then let it go. It will always be there in one form or another. I just try not to focus on it so much anymore. That doesn’t always work, but it did this time.

I am having such a wonderful time at the beach with Mr. FixIt. We started out yesterday with the fabulous pancakes at Stack ‘Em High 4.5. Look up Kristine…the owner’s wife. What a hoot! Then we went to the Elizabethan Gardens, the aquarium, and the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. We learned about Sir Walter Raleigh and the Lost Colony. We drove all over Roanoke Island and saw the shipyards where they make those huge yachts. We had crab for supper, tried to see a sunset (no go…yet), and drove up the island toward Corolla. We ended the evening with a few hands of Rummy. It was a very good day.

  1. I ❤️ Corolla, I could watch the horses on the beach ALL day! Wish I would have spent more time in Rodanthe (the movie was a fave of mine), took the ferry over to Ocracoke for an afternoon and would like to explore it a bit more.
Have fun, I wish I could make it this year. The OBX is calling me back once again! ?

  2. This has hit home. My place is the sea and I feel it happening . Sad and happy. Thank u Ginnny??❤️

  3. My beloved husband, who was killed in Nov. 2017, and I went every summer to Emerald Isle, NC for vacation. We truly loved it. I don’t think I can bear to go there without him.

  4. Beautiful pictures! It is funny how grief will hit you. My sweet TB passed 14 yrs ago and I remarried 8 yrs ago to a great guy. Just this week I felt the grief wave hard. My Grand is graduating from high school this year. I received her announcement and I just lost it. I felt the grief and anger all over again! TB was suppose to be here to celebrate this milestone with me. I am still dealing with the after effects of the grief and letting go of the anger.

  5. Ginny, you have this uncanny way of seeing into my heart. Today would have been our 31st wedding anniversary. Of course there were pictures on FB from our 29th, the last he was alive. Last year the FB memories crushed me. This year it is easier, a sadness and the ache of missing him. I didn’t think it could ever get easier but it is. Love hearing about the adventures with your new love. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  6. We are headed to Carolina Beach tomorrow. Anywhere there is water, I am at peace. ❤ Enjoy your vacation!
