Reunion

I had an unexpected surprise this week. I received a text from a high school friend that was coming to Denver to actively participate in the Clinton Global Initiative Group…part of the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. We hadn’t seen each other in 44 years and spent four hours in an Irish Pub catching up. What a delightful way to spend the afternoon!

Friendships. I have renewed so many of the friendships of my youth in the last six months. Some of whom I haven’t seen since graduating in ’71. I don’t know if it is indicative of the circumstances we found ourselves in at the time or if it’s a “Southern Thang”, but our class was particularly close in high school. With the advent of social media, we’ve been able to carry on a virtual class reunion. One of the blessings of that, and of age, is crossing the boundaries of “the clique”. People who would not have known me in high school have become dear friends. I love this. It’s the active laying down of the slings and arrows of adolescence and finding that common ground that makes us more alike than different. I have heard some say “Well, she didn’t pay a bit of attention to me in high school…why would I want to be friends now?” I say horse hockey. Get over it. We were kids. EVERYBODY’S adolescence sucked. I wouldn’t miss out on these relationships for anything in the world.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

John 15:12
