Rest and Relaxation

The hat I made yesterday. The color isn’t accurate…I took this picture in the camper. It’s actually a pale pink. See the other photo for color reference.

Yesterday was exactly what I needed! I always camp next to the garden at my son-in-law’s parents’ place. The kids are working or in school, I have my own little space, and I get to visit with a couple of the coolest people on the planet! Ben & Sue opened their home to me after Mr. Virgo died. I came here and they nurtured me and fed me and helped me get through the first two weeks of widowhood. We’ve always been close, but when Sue had a health scare a couple of years ago, she and I became like sisters. We chat every night and we are sounding boards for each other. I am blessed to have a handful of these awesome women in my life.

Sue and I visited all day. We made “Porcupine Balls” for Little’s birthday dinner today. Those are nothing more than regular meatballs, but you add uncooked Jasmine rice to the meat. Then you cook the meatballs in regular ol’ tomato soup from a can. And the rice sticks out of the meatballs every which way looking like little porcupines. Sue’s mom found the recipe in a pressure cooker cookbook and has made them for years. They are the most requested food for family gatherings here at the “epicenter of the universe.”

I started knitting a hat this morning with some of the yarn I bought at The Blue Pelican Gallery in Hatteras, NC last month. I finished it just in time to go out to the camper and write. It was a slow, easy day with knitting and a nap, lots of fluids, and fun conversation. I really push the fluids when I first get here to help ward off any altitude issues. Today will be busier with a family birthday party.

Mr. FixIt has been busy with mowing and social events…prom pictures, Mother’s Day with family at the former Mrs. FixIt’s house, then the final softball game of the year. It’s a busy time for both of us and we miss each other something awful! We haven’t spent this much time away from each other in three years. We’ll be back together before we know it but I don’t want to wish away a moment of my time with the kids!

Psalm 4:8 ESV
