Pumpkin Kitty is a Guard Cat!

Well, I was going to lead this with the second photo, but didn’t want to gross y’all out too bad right from the get go before coffee and all. Mr. FixIt went to town to chat with his buddies last evening and I worked on getting the camper ready for winter. I was thinking of camping one more weekend, but I just don’t think I have it in me. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m about camped out for the year! Crazy, right?!

Anyway, I was making trips out to the camper and bringing back tubs of stuff and I almost stepped in a big pile of fresh bear scat! Right in front of the camper door!!! Yikes! I do have bear spray handy, but never even thought I might have to use it in my own backyard. I really think that was what Pumpkin was getting all hairy about on Saturday when she was on high alert. We are extra careful of Pumpkin during the days leading up to Halloween because she’s black. But we’ll put her in her building early and let her out late in the coming weeks till the bears go into hibernation.

I have all the food stuffs out of the camper except for what’s in the fridge. I’ll take that out and clean it in the morning. I’ve winterized the water system in the camper with that pink RV Antifreeze you see gallons of at Walmart in the fall. I emptied out all the bathroom and kitchen cabinets and the underbelly storage. I need to empty the bedroom cabinets and just keep the barest essentials in there because I still like to go out in the afternoons and nap in the winter. I even get brave and sleep out there from time to time when the weather isn’t too harsh.

I got a notification last evening and we had our first frost forecast. Honestly, it’s almost Halloween…it’s time for the frosts to come. I hate to see the pretty leaves fall. But fall they must. I’ve come to the conclusion that winter will come whether I like it or not. I can accept it and embrace it or I can be grumpy. Either way, winter will come. I think I’ll just roll with it!

And watch out for bears!
