Premonition

For years, I have had a recurring nightmare. It’s always the same. It’s about a seven second movie of a plane taking off over a city. It’s flying low, banks hard to the left, hits something with its wing and crashes into water. Over and over…same thing. No info. No location. No date. Just the seven second video. The first time I had the dream it scared the bejeebers out of me. Over the years it’s become a matter of course. When I turned on the news on my iPad, the video of yesterday’s plane crash played out before me and before I saw more than one second of it, I knew this was the one. This was the one I have seen over and over. It was such an eerie feeling.

Last night I was talking to a friend of mine. She told me she had such an odd dream the night before. She dreamt a plane crashed in the water and she and her daughter tried to get to the survivors in a boat but it wouldn’t start. Then she saw the news and it freaked her out. I can understand that. Premonitions are not necessarily acknowledged in the Bible except as delivered by prophets. Modern psychiatry has all kinds of names to label a person who claims to “see things”. But for those to whom it occurs, there is no doubt as to the validity of the visions. They are real.

I had visions, premonitions if you will, for about a week before Mr. Virgo died. Three times I was awakened from a deep sleep, sat bolt upright in bed…breathing hard, heart pounding. I knew, KNEW I was going to reach to my right and find my husband cold and still. It didn’t happen though. He was breathing the even, shallow breath of sleep. The day before he died, I walked by as he napped on the couch. His mouth was gaped open and a voice in my head calmly said…”This is how he’ll look when he’s dead.” I stopped in my tracks. Who WAS that? Where did it come from? The day Mr. Virgo died, we were driving to the RV dealer to pick out our travel trailer. He always wore a watch. He SLEPT in his watch. We were holding hands. He picked up my hand, looked at his bare wrist and said, “Hmmmm…I forgot to wear my watch today.” And that same voice in my head calmly said, “He’s going to die today.” Where on earth did THAT come from? I have no idea, but it was very real…and he was gone three hours later.

Premonitions. Visions. Dreams. I don’t know for sure…but I think God speaks to us in a million different ways. If we can just be still and listen, we can learn so much.

“For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.”
