Playing Tourist

One of the places I’ve wanted to show Mr. FixIt is Red Rocks Amphitheater. Built in 1936 by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), a Depression-era public work relief agency, it is the coveted venue of every musician on the planet. I’ve been to several shows at Red Rocks. The first was John Denver in the late ‘70s, early ‘80s. Michael Martin Murphy and Starland Vocal Band opened for him. It was magical. Anyone who has been to a concert there will always and forever remember their first time. The view is amazing and the acoustics are incredible. I’ve also seen Casting Crowns, Mandisa, James Taylor, Willy Nelson, and several smaller local bands.

Yesterday was gorgeous. The temps stayed in the 70’s and there were even spotty rain showers but they didn’t amount to anything. We stopped at Duluth Trading Company and browsed then went to the Whole Foods at Colorado Mills for lunch. We stopped at The Brass Armadillo and prowled around the jam packed aisles of antiques till we were on sensory overload and came back to Ben & Sue’s. Everyone took an afternoon siesta then we went to Daughter #2’s house to teach her how to program her sprinkler system.

On our way home, I inadvertently showed Mr. FixIt an area of the city that I am sure he could have done without. I made a wrong turn and ended up in the north edge of the city where the homeless live in tents on any square inch of ground they can find. Those without tents just sleep out on the ground. I’ve never seen the homeless population so high here. It was so discouraging to see and I prayed for them as we passed through.

President Biden was in Denver yesterday and we managed to avoid any major traffic delays as he traveled from DIA to Golden. I would have liked to see his motorcade, at least. The closest I’ve ever been to a President was standing outside the White House and watching Air Force One land in Denver one time.

The nights are getting pretty darned chilly here in Colorado. We’ve had to throw extra blankets on the beds in the camper, but it really makes for good sleeping weather. Little is coming over today to bake Buttermilk Biscuits then we’ll have a down home southern breakfast for supper with the kids.

Just three more days and we hit the road and head for home. I hate leaving, but we have had such a wonderful time visiting!
