Perfection

There is nothing more perfect than a cloudless sky, the gentle whoosh of the waves at low tide an hour after sunrise…coffee in hand, and 74 degrees. It was as if the fish knew we were leaving and came out to put on a show. They were leaping in every direction…stingrays catching air like stealth bombers of the sea, little silver fish called “spots” splashing, and even a couple of small sharks arcing over the waves. After two weeks watching the unsuccessful fishermen on the shore, it was a delight to watch them pulling in fish after fish.

It was really sad to leave the beach yesterday. I tried to justify staying longer but there are things that need attending to. I definitely want to be back by 10/23 for our class dinner and coffee with the Divas on the 24th. I need to winterize the trailer. You all will be pleased to know I will be sleeping indoors during the coldest winter months this year…WITH running water! It was quite an adventure last winter living in my camper at -25 wind chill and a foot and a half of snow but one I don’t particularly care to repeat! I would like to escape to warmer weather in February, but we’ll have to see how that works out.

We stayed just north of Charlotte last night. It wasn’t nearly as wonderful as going to sleep to the sound of the sea. Sigh. I’ll just have to figure out a way to get back there. We’re heading to cooler weather the next few days. Time to pull out the jeans, sweaters, and electric blankets. Our next stop is Bridge Days at The New River Gorge bridge in Fayetteville. Once a year, they close the bridge to traffic and you can walk out on it and watch crazy people bungee and BASE jump off of it!!! This ought to be exciting! Stay tuned for fabulous photos of the colors and sites.
