My Little Hideaway

It was sunny and gorgeous yesterday and just about all the snow has melted. The creeks were roaring and the ground was spongy beneath my feet as I walked out to the camper for a little recharge. I do so love having a space to call my own. I love taking a good book and crawling under the electric blanket for a read and a little nap. It’s so restorative.

Just as I drifted off, the whole camper shuddered and I thought a huge gust of wind had come up…like a microburst. It turns out, it was the large slab of snow on the slanted roof that gave way from the warmth of the rising sun. Honestly, I about jumped out of my skin when I heard that roar and felt the rumble.

When I got out to the “Big Birdhouse”, it was still pretty cold. I plugged in my little ceramic heater and the fan gurgled and groaned and I realized it was on its last leg. I went back in the house and brought out the “fireplace”. I bought this heater when I was living in Big TOW-Wanda up on the banks of the Ohio River in 2015.

One thing I didn’t realize with this bigger heater…it doesn’t have a thermostat. I was all snuggled up and once I got warm, I fell asleep. After an hour or so, the temperature outside was 62° and I woke up in what felt like a dry sauna! It had to have been 90° or more because that heater just kept running.

We went to a birthday party for one of the West Virginia grands last night. We got to play with our “great grand-doggy”, Ivy. She is a Bern-Doodle and is the sweetest girl. It feels weird to gather with people again. We felt fairly comfortable because everyone had been vaccinated and boosted. But, I’m not sure I will ever look at socializing the same.

Today is the knitter’s gathering. I’ve already come to look forward to Tuesdays! It reminds me of when my youngest was little and I was a stay-at-home mom. When she turned two, her pediatrician said it was time to start socializing her so I took her two days a week to the daycare program through the hospital. That gave me a few hours to clean uninterrupted and gather with some girlfriends to stitch. Women need community. It is just as important now as it was when I was a young mother.

Our weather will be warm and sunny till Friday. I do believe Spring has sprung!!!

?

“for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”

Song of Solomon 2:11-12 ESV
