My Baby and Me

My youngest and her wife came for a visit yesterday. We were all really hungry and decided to go out for brunch. My daughter-in-law has some food allergies so we pulled up the local restaurants and looked at their menus. We decided a breakfast place would have the most acceptable options so I chose Rise and Shine Restaurant.

I knew that name sounded familiar. The chef that worked with Mr. Virgo at the Warwick fifteen years ago went out on her own and opened a restaurant but I thought it was Rise and Shine Cafe. I know some restaurants have similar names. I was looking around and wondering if this could possible be the actual restaurant when my eyes locked with a woman standing behind the counter and the look of surprise and joy on her face warmed my heart.

It was, indeed, Kristen. It was such a delight to see her after all these years and to see her doing so well.

She’s had the restaurant for fifteen years now and it’s still going strong. The service was great. The food was amazing! Mr. FixIt had a breakfast burrito. Daughter #2 had a Buffalo Chicken sandwich made with one of their enormous cheddar biscuits. Dear DIL had Creme Brûlée French Toast. And I had Huevos Rancheros served on a bed of quinoa instead of corn tortillas. So, so good!!!

We went back to Ben and Sue’s to chat for awhile. When the girls left, Mr. FixIt and I went to check out Jax, an outdoor and sporting goods store. It’s a really cool store…sort of Rural King meets Bass Pro Shops. So many choices of things that it made my head spin. We wandered around for a good hour and a half before we left. When we got back, Ben and Sue were home from their excursion out to the Eastern Plains.

We watched Pride and Prejudice…a really good movie but we had to have the closed captioning on because it was so difficult to understand what they were saying. We have so much in common with Ben and Sue that we always have something to talk about.

My brother called and I told Mr. FixIt we really need to get back up there to see him before we come home. We’ll probably go up there tomorrow and stay a couple of nights. One of my volunteer duties is to keep the “Gone But Not Forgotten” list on our high school class FB page. I completed a new update yesterday morning for a wonderful guy I’ve known since I was in grade school. When I left the updated list on our page, I encouraged others to reach out now if they want to catch up with someone because time’s a’wastin’. I don’t dare go home without giving my Bubby some more great hugs!

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”
