Mountain Miles are Longer

Leaving the Greenbrier State Forest Campground

I love to drive. Mountains, plains, twisty-turny or straightaways…I love them all. This camper is so easy to pull that you hardly know it’s back there. The only thing that gives me even the slightest pause is driving through rush hour traffic in a big city towing a camper behind me. Because people be crazy on the highways. They whip around you and dart right back in front of you with inches to spare. They don’t realize I’m hauling a couple of tons of force behind me and I can’t stop as fast as normal…even with electric brakes on the camper. I was in the middle lane going 65 when a guy passed me in the fast lane on my left. Not a problem normally. But then he turned sharp right in front of not only me, but the right lane, too and zipped off the exit. I think my heart is somewhere on the blacktop in Central Virginia.

“Country Roads…Take me Home!”

I can’t tell you where we’re staying while we are here, but it is SO beautiful. It’s in the general area of where we’ve stayed before…just not this campground. The State Park is neat as a pin with spacious campsites nestled in a tall hardwood forest. The camp host is as pleasant as can be. We had a hard time getting level and he loaned us a couple of boards and that was just what we needed. Again, it was nearly dark by the time we had the campsite set up so I whipped up a quick “breakfast/supper”…ham, eggs, and toast. Once I got the dishes cleaned up and sat down, it was almost 9:00. I fixed myself a hot beverage and sat down in our new recliners to write. I think I will smile every single time I sit down in here!

We stopped in a rest area to take a short break and parked by the cutest little homemade teardrop camper. The couple were so nice and offered to show us their handiwork. He made this little camper in his basement! I forgot to ask him how he got it out! She is a nurse who works with Medicaid matching foster and adoptions with the proper services. I told her she is an angel in disguise because that is such hard work. They were just the sweetest people and we may find them visiting us here on these pages! Isn’t this just the cutest thing?

I’m really glad we don’t have to travel today. We are going to play tourist and wander around the area a bit. Maybe even catch a nap…I don’t know. I’ll be able to share where we are tomorrow when we leave for the last leg of the drive down to the beach.
