More Hustle

Every day there seems to be something pressing that needs to be done. Yesterday we went to town for an appointment and finally got our Bivalent Covid Vaccines. We picked out the shingles we want for the new roof. We had dinner out. We walked a mile in the mall. Picked up a prescription, and hightailed it home. As we were leaving around 1:30 in the afternoon, I flipped on the back porch light and sighed. I know as sure as I know my name…there’s no such thing as a quick trip to town and we’d surely be home long after dark. We were.

We need to go in either today or tomorrow to get the shingles and the other supplies so the boys can get started on the roof. We’re pushing it now to get it done before the snow falls. There are still things that need to be done to put the camper to bed for the season. There are some wooden cabinets out by the garage that are covered with an old tarp that ripped so we need to replace that, too.

I did get to sit with my tea yesterday morning. There was an early morning chill in the air so I wore the little capelet my friend Pat knitted and gave to me when her store closed. It’s perfect to just throw around your shoulders when knitting or reading. I didn’t even pick my knitting up yesterday. I told Mr. FixIt I want to finish knitting the sleeves on this sweater so I can get back to the quilt for the grandkids’ wedding. I’m really trying to stick to my commitment of “one project at a time.”

The leaves are falling in earnest now. The large leaves of the sycamore trees out front float straight down like little bronze parachutes in the autumn sunlight. The squirrels rustle around burying nuts at the base of trees sounding all the while like a herd of bison zipping through the leaves. Turkey vultures circle silently above, looking furtively left and right for some tasty roadkill. The red shouldered hawks scream as they zoom across the far field hunting…always hunting.

The grass is brittle and dry now. Our mowing days are over for a few months till the earth awakens again in spring. This is the time for us to rustle around like the squirrels getting all the work done before winter takes us into hibernation. The blessed hibernation I am looking forward to with knitting needles and sewing machine and baking pans at the ready.

I can’t find the electric blanket for our bed anywhere. Where on earth could I have put it?

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

Galatians 6:9 ESV

  1. Glad you are getting things buttoned up for winter! The only thing we have left is to cut back the flowers in our 3 beds! It will be nice to enjoy the winter in a cozy warm house! Love reading about all your adventures! ?❤️?
