Lessons

I’ve been working with a trainer the last two months. We exercise together four or five times a week. Anyone who exercises knows it’s a whole lot easier when you’re with someone. There’s not only the accountability factor, but the motivation and encouraging comments that come with having an exercise partner is priceless.

It’s important when you exercise to stay in breath so you are aerobic…your muscles getting the oxygen they need. One way of assuring that is to carry on a conversation. If you can’t talk more than a few words with all the huffing and puffing, you should really slow down the pace a little. Imagine my delight when I can exercise AND carry on a conversation. It helped make the activity much more pleasant.

And now my trainer, who has become my good friend, is moving on to his next adventure. I am so happy for him, but selfishly I will miss his encouraging words and fun conversation. He has taught me many things. I’m not invisible. Everything we do in life should come from a place of love…for others, for ourselves, for the planet, and for God. Our bodies are machines that need the proper fuel in order to function properly. And, I’m probably not drinking enough water.

Now comes the hard part. Now I have to stay motivated to get out there and keep exercising at the same level of intensity. I can do this but it will be an adjustment. I hate goodbyes so I’ll just say “See ya later, my friend. Thanks for believing I could make the changes I needed to get healthy.”

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
