Kiss Me, Sunshine!

Our forsythia are popping open right and left!

Oh, my word…I don’t know what the official temperature was yesterday, but around 4:00pm the thermometer on the back of the house read 82°!!!!! I know we aren’t supposed to be excited about the world getting warmer, but when I have a day like yesterday, I feel like I just got let out of prison.

We had several things that needed to be done before Mr. FixIt went to town for his turn at errands. Namely, we wanted to switch the tongue jacks between the Big Birdhouse and Grace. It was a lot easier this time because we had the a-frame hooked up to the truck. It wasn’t going anywhere. And we had two solid stand jacks under the front of the new camper.

I hooked up the wiring harness between the two batteries on the a-frame like a pro. The fact that my husband thought ahead and took a picture of it before he took it apart was pretty handy. Then, while he was undoing the wiring on the electric tongue jack, I took the manual jack off the other camper. Before we knew it, we had the jacks switched out. Now the only thing we need to do is charge up the battery for Grace, the new camper. Then Mr. FixIt can hook up the electric jack and that part is finished.

Why is it, when you put something in a safe place and then, try as you might, when you need it again it’s just…gone! That’s what has happened to the title for the a-frame. I think I know where it is, but I will have to do a little searching for it today. If I can’t find it, I can always run to town and get another one. But it’s just aggravating. The next step is to advertise the camper for sale and I know God will bring us the perfect person who needs it. The nice thing for the new owners…all the little glitches that come with a new camper have already been worked out and they’ll have a fun little camper that will hopefully give them many years of enjoyment.

While Mr. FixIt was off galavanting around yesterday afternoon, I went out and walked the grounds here at Marshmallow Ranch. The weather was downright balmy. The birds are coming back and they are so hungry after their migration north. We’re really running through the birdseed in the last month. It does my heart good to hear them start singing with the earliest crack of dawn.

As I wrote this last night, I was “yard camping” out back. My goal is to sleep in the camper at least one night out of every month this year! There may come a day when I can no longer do this, but it’s no time soon, I hope. I read a story about a woman in her 80’s whose husband passed away right after they bought a 40’ motorhome. Like me, she knew she had to put something joyful in front of her in order to get through her loss. So, she learned how to drive the RV all by herself and now she and her little dog go everywhere together!

Age is largely a state of mind. If we can stay healthy and fit, there’s no reason we can’t just keep this up for a good long time. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than camp out and about, sitting under the stars around my propane “pretend” campfire. And when the time comes that we cannot continue to travel, the camper will remain my sanctuary beside the house.

Now…on to the next thing!

“You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.”

Psalm 104:10-13 ESV
