“It’s Christmas Time in Heaven”

This is the last picture taken of Mr. Virgo. It was Christmas morning 2012. Eleven weeks later, he was gone. This was the first Christmas he had off in 40 years. It was as if God was saying, “He won’t be here next year so I’ll give you this one together.” It was a beautiful day. One that will remain in my heart forever.

I wrote this poem last year as a tribute. I thought I’d share it here again. So far, this year isn’t quite as difficult as last year. As a dear friend of mine said, “The very nature of a mine field indicates fewer and fewer mines will be found as they explode.” I guess the trick is to not get blown up.

“It’s Christmas Time in Heaven”

If only I'd have known
Your days on Earth were few,
I'd have spent each waking moment
Of my life with you.
I would have taken pictures
To mark each passing day
Then I could see you when I want
Since you have gone away.
I know you're up in Heaven.
I know you're there with God.
I know you're there with Mom and Dad,
But oh, this time is hard.
It's Christmas time, my darling.
Times past were filled with glee.
But this year all I think about is
You're not here with me.
No sneaky shaking presents.
There is no hug or kiss.
My heart just feels so empty.
It's you I really miss.
It's Christmas time in Heaven.
I know this must be true.
Every day was Christmas Day
When it was spent with you!
